Award winning cocktail bar tucked away in a Montreal Chinatown. Authentic Cantonese food available for clients who want to snack while enjoying an all-natural libation. Live DJ sets every night.
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is described as a stylish cocktail bar with a cozy, intimate vibe that can feel upscale depending on the room and night. Cocktails are frequently praised for creativity, balance, and strong flavors, with standout drinks like strong water, negroni, and pina fuego, though a few guests find prices high and portions small. Service is noted for being attentive and friendly, with staff offering knowledgeable recommendations and occasional courtesy substitutions that enhance the experience. The atmosphere and music receive mixed reviews, ranging from lively DJ nights and live acts to nights where the sound can be loud and conversation difficult. Food options are limited to small bites, and mocktails can be less exciting, but overall the experience is memorable and many would return.
Ambiance correcte. Temps d'attente à l'extérieur long & inutile puisque plusieurs tables étaient inoccupées. Les cocktails sont trop chers. La serveuse est contrôlante.

This is a great place for connecting with people. The atmosphere is fantastic & the cocktails have a signature flavor. I was lost while finding the entrance as there is only one little sign "bar" close to the door.
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is a fun, unique, retro bar definitely worthy of a stop in Montréal. Although it's gained its popularity for the aptly named "Champagne Papi", the menu offers tons of diverse cocktails to choose from. The service was fantastic & the drinks were incredible, the Champagne Papi actually tasted incredible for what may be considered a "gimmicky drink". I would order it even if it did not have Drake's face on it.

Loved the previous location & the new one is great as well. Very chic without being uncomfortable. Staff & drinks were great! Drinks are a tad bit expensive but they're good & the vibe makes it worth it.
Stopped by this bar for a late night drink, & it did not disappoint. The drinks were solid, loved the Champagne Papi "Drake drink" & fruit loop shots (they were as good as they sound). The prices were decent. Definitely worth checking out if you're out late & looking for a good vibe
This bar was an absolute must-visit on my list with my partner, she had been to a previous iteration of this bar - & it shows that this place has consistently been a success since it's grown into a space 3x its original size. We were served by Elyssa & she was so helpful, I don't know how she knew that I was craving a pineapple flavoured drink, but she suggested I try the house special (also called Le Mal Nécessaire) - which was delectable. My partner got Elyssa's take on a hurricane & only superlatives could suffice to explain how good it was. Everyone should visit this bar when they're in Montréal.
Decent drinks in a beautiful new venue. The biggest problem was there weren't enough bartenders to provide adequate service, & we waited too long between orders & to receive the bill. The pina colada was surprisingly just okay. We found the venue got very loud as it's a fairly cavernous space.
