Award winning cocktail bar tucked away in a Montreal Chinatown. Authentic Cantonese food available for clients who want to snack while enjoying an all-natural libation. Live DJ sets every night.
Bar Le Mal Nécessaire is described as a stylish cocktail bar with a cozy, intimate vibe that can feel upscale depending on the room and night. Cocktails are frequently praised for creativity, balance, and strong flavors, with standout drinks like strong water, negroni, and pina fuego, though a few guests find prices high and portions small. Service is noted for being attentive and friendly, with staff offering knowledgeable recommendations and occasional courtesy substitutions that enhance the experience. The atmosphere and music receive mixed reviews, ranging from lively DJ nights and live acts to nights where the sound can be loud and conversation difficult. Food options are limited to small bites, and mocktails can be less exciting, but overall the experience is memorable and many would return.
Great space, great service, & can make any cocktail that you can think of & have it be well crafted. I mean there's a fridge just for various styles of chilled glasses.
This place is a must when visiting Montreal. They are very creative with the drinks & take their time preparing every single one of them. The ambience is great & pleasantly decorated. It is a very nice vibe in the evenings. I can't wait to go back!
really cool spot with awesome cocktails. the inside has a nice ambiance, but it is pretty small & a bit too loud. service was good & the drinks are super good!
I found the cocktails generally underwhelming when I visited, & also it was way to loud to my liking as I had troubles having any normal conversations with my friends
Went here for new years & honestly was an amazing experience. They take your coats & assign you a coat ticket at the entrance. They had a live band & a DJ performing. The drinks were also very unique & different. At the end they gave us free champagne for reserving the night with them. Overall, would probably come back to celebrate another event

Fabulous cocktail bar! Super fun house cocktails with a tiki theme, but every cocktail we ordered was very well made. Staff were super friendly & helpful without being pushy, especially Yohan! Great for pre-dinner drinks. Plenty of room on Friday 5pm to get a table for our party.
My favorite bar in Montreal. BEST BOURBON SOUR I HAVE EVER HAD!! Unique cocktails, delicious, & aesthetically pleasing. It is more expensive & worth it. As an American on the border, Montreal became my second home & I visit this bar EVERY TIME! Their new location is huge. I preferred the intimate setting of their old venue, but I'm happy for them that they expanded so much.
Hands down one of the best if not top cocktail bar I've been to! I have been here a few times now & the drinks are some of the most unique & best tasting drinks I have ever had! I love all the drinks I have tried here but I think the coco supremo is my favourite! 10/10 drinks, atmosphere & service! Their menu is one of the most visually appealing unique menus I have ever seen - each drink has a description & they even have a cocktail scale to help you pick! One of the best bars I have ever been to!

Mal Nécessaire is an absolute gem in the world of high-end cocktail bars. As soon as you step through the door, you're transported to a luxurious tropical oasis that masterfully blends the fun, carefree vibes of a tiki bar with the sophistication of a premium cocktail experience. The cocktails are nothing short of art. Yes, they may take a little time, but they're absolutely worth the wait! Each drink is a perfectly balanced blend of creativity & craftsmanship, showcasing an impressive understanding of flavors & techniques. Let me just say-it's hands-down the best Jungle Bird in the city! What truly sets Mal Nécessaire apart, though, is the incredible staff & their respect for their craft, from the care they pour into each drink to their commitment to using natural ingredients. From the moment you arrive, you're treated like family, making every visit feel special. Insider tip: Bring an apple for the bouncer-it's a secret gesture that adds a playful, memorable touch to the experience. The bartenders are a breath of fresh air. No pretentious attitudes here-just passionate, approachable artists who love what they do & make you feel right at home. Their recommendations? Always spot-on. Whether you're celebrating, taking someone special on a date, or just looking to unwind, Mal Nécessaire is the perfect spot. They deserve all the love-this is the kind of place that reminds you why nights out matter: to laugh, make new friends, & experience something truly unique.
Waiters were extremely accommodating of a large group & had tons of suggestions for the menu. Lighting & ambiance was amazing, & the jazz band was great with tons of personality.
If you don't go to Le Mal Nécessaire each time you visit Montréal, why do you go to Montréal? Loved it before, loving it even more after they moved to the new location. Amazing place, amazing drinks, great ambience, perfectio? Yes. If you love yourself try the Froot Loops shot, please.
Very cute place, & the drinks are amazing. However, their payment system is horrible, & let me explain why. It's pretty ridiculous that one person has to pre pay for everyone, that being the price after taxes, but also an 18% tip & to quickly mention people should have the right to tip at their own convenience, 18% is above the standard tipping rate, but more importantly including tips in the deposit is ridiculous, this place charges tips to just hold a table for you!! What they lack to comprehend is that this amount is what we call a deposit, & deposits are refundable & normally no tax nor tips are included. Also, at the end they deduct the portion you paid (excluding taxes & tips), & then charge the taxes & a minimum of an 18% tip...Not only is this such a complicated process, but having everyone e transfer you (if you choose to pay separately) is chaotic. They have one bill for everything & you have to be the one on top of everyone's payment & getting e transfers when they could simply just charge separate bills! It's not normal. It's a bummer, it's such a beautiful place.
