About us

For more than 35 years, the restaurant Au Tarot has established itself as the best Mediterranean restaurant in Montreal. The restaurant Au Tarot is at once an Algerian restaurant, a Moroccan restaurant, and a Tunisian restaurant, as it marries all the cuisine of the Maghreb. To save you the effort of cooking, the restaurant offers free delivery of its fresh traditional dishes, cooked every day with care. Takeout meals are also available. Consult the chef for special delivery during events, weddings, film shoots, office parties, etc.

The chef-owner, Nouredine Kara, demanding and a perfectionist, does his own shopping by selecting the best fresh products from the market every day. He oversees everything: from the preparation of the semolina to the homemade production of the merguez; from the perfect composition of the tagines (which are undoubtedly the best in Montreal), to the warm and affable welcome of all customers. One often encounters many personalities from the world of arts, business, or politics at the restaurant, who are loyal fans of tagines, pastillas, and couscous, as well as the charm that reigns here.

Un endroit dont il faut se souvenir. En affaires depuis plus de 40 ans. A gardé les recettes de couscous parmi les meilleures de Montréal. Très bel accueil. Ambiance bon enfant

Très bonne soirée : enfin un restaurant calme à ambiance feutrée. Belle variété de couscous sur la carte. Le patron est charmant très accueillant. Il nous a bien conseillé. Bon rapport qualité prix.

We had a fantastic evening at Au Tarot. It was the highlight of our visit to Montreal. It is located in a very vibrant & interesting neighborhood away from the commercial downtown. The owner came by our table to ensure that we were having a good experience; he was friendly & hospitable & this enhanced our experience. The food was excellent. On his recommendation we had the couscous au jarreau d'agneau & the tagine d'agneau aux pruneaux. The meat melted in the mouth & the sauces were wonderfully flavorful & somehow also delicate. We ended with thé à la menthe & a selection of desserts all clearly prepared fresh & all delightful. The ambiance was also perfect, authentic & not overdone. We could make conversation easily even though the restaurant was full. Exceptional dining experience. Excellent food & ambiance, welcoming & unpretentious. We wish there were such a restaurant in our hometown.

La bouffe est excellente & le personnel est accueillant, mais, il serait avantageux d'installer quelques panneaux acoustiques sur les murs pour atténuer la réverbération lorsque le restaurant est bondé car le bruit ambiant est vraiment dérangeant. C'est toujours un plaisir pour le palet de manger Au Tarot malgré tout!

Superb Moroccan restaurant in Montreal. Wonderful selection of couscous & tahine dishes, warm & prompt service, beautiful decor & intimate ambiance, no charge for bringing your own wine, just about everything you could want for late night dining. Great value for money.

We really enjoyed a wonderful meal at Le Tarot. They were able to accommodate a gluten-free diner, the owner recommended the perfect dishes to share amongst the four of us, the food was absolutely delicious & the ambiance delightful. We'll be back soon.

Au Tarot is a local gem recommended to us by our taxi driver. We had the chicken tagine, couscous & rack of lamb. Truly the best lamb i've every had; tender without being too fatty, & the seasoning was out of this world. Chicken was amazing, & the vegetables & broth for the couscous was fragrant & satisfying. The owner attended to us personally as he did everyone in the restaurant, & we had an endless supply of "extras", especially different varieties of figs with our mint tea. Don't get sugar in your mint tea; you'll have plenty of sweet treats to satisfy you. Amazing & delightful dinner.
