About

Anticafé Montreal operates as a communal space where patrons pay for time rather than individual items. The environment features a self-service model offering an assortment of unlimited hot beverages, light snacks, and freshly baked pastries. Visitors utilize the various workstations, lounge seating, and shared tables to facilitate productivity or leisure activities throughout the day. This concept prioritizes accessibility, allowing guests to interact with a rotating selection of artisanal treats and coffee options while maintaining a focus on a fluid, non-traditional hospitality experience. The interior design emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere conducive to focused tasks or casual social engagement within a functional layout. Standard amenities support a high level of utility for those seeking a quiet environment to consume refreshments while working or connecting with others in a modern setting.

Review Summary

Anticafé Montreal offers a unique and highly affordable concept where visitors pay for their time rather than individual items, enjoying access to unlimited coffee, tea, and snacks in a charming, quirkily decorated environment. While many patrons appreciate the cozy, vibrant atmosphere and find it to be a fantastic alternative space for coworking, studying, or socializing, others point out significant drawbacks including limited personal space, noise levels that can hinder productivity, and concerns regarding cleanliness, air quality, and the quality of food options. The staff generally receives praise for being friendly and helpful, though language barriers and inconsistent service have been noted. Ultimately, the space is frequently described as a creative and welcoming environment that serves as an excellent spot for short sessions, even if some visitors find it less ideal for long periods of intense, quiet work.

Ce café m'a été chaudement recommandé par un ami & je ne regrette pas de m'y être rendue
L'ambiance est vraiment paisible, les décors magnifiques & les employés adorables.
J'adore le concept !!

I recently discovered one of my favorite cafés in Montreal.

It has a cozy vintage atmosphere spread over two levels, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends, read a book, or get some remote work done. There are several separate rooms, so it's easy to find a quiet corner, & the view overlooking Place des Arts is a nice bonus.

What makes this place different is its pricing: you pay for the time you spend there, not for what you eat or drink. Tea, coffee, cookies, & snacks are self-serve with plenty of options, while a barista is available to prepare drinks like lattes & other specialty coffees.

They also have a huge collection of board games, making it a great spot for game nights, casual meetings, or simply spending a relaxing afternoon.

It's definitely worth a visit, & I can already tell it's going to become my go-to café.

I spent about 3.5 hours working here & paid around $20, which I found reasonable for the location. It's conveniently situated near Place des Arts, & the staff were friendly & welcoming. The Wi-Fi connection was reliable, & I appreciated the complimentary coffee & snacks.

That said, I didn't find it to be an ideal environment for focused work. The space is charming & has character, but it felt quite cramped. Many of the tables are small & shared by multiple people, which leaves little personal space. I was seated on what appeared to be repurposed movie theatre seats, which added to the quirky atmosphere but wasn't particularly comfortable for several hours of work.

The biggest challenge was the noise level. Because of the close quarters, conversations & even everyday sounds from nearby guests carried easily. At one point, someone sharing my table was chewing & slurping loudly, making it difficult to concentrate. I also found it difficult to locate accessible power outlets, likely due to the layout.

Overall, it's a cute & unique spot with good amenities & a great location, but for me it was too tight & noisy to be productive. I personally wouldn't return for a work session, though it could be a reasonable option if you're in the area & need a place to work for a short period.

Such a fun space. Unlimited lattes is an amazing deal for 22$. I only wish the snacks were healthier. When I was there they only had packaged foods & chips, would prefer some fruits & veggies but understand that it might only be economical when they're in season.

Nice alternative space to study/co-work & the staff were friendly. Some points of improvement would be the quality of the beverages made & better hygiene system for the food & upkeep of the different rooms/spaces. Otherwise not a bad experience!

J'ai vu 2 fois des souris. La première fois dans une salle du 2eme étage, & une 2eme derrière la cuvettes des toilettes du 2ème étage également. C'est dommage parce que j'aime bien l'endroit.

I absolutely loved the vibe at Anticafé! it's so unique & different from your typical coffee shop. The space is super clean, bright, & incredibly spacious, making it a great spot to relax or get some work done. On top of that, the staff are so friendly & helpful. I highly recommend checking this place out, & I will definitely be back for sure!

Cozy place to stay & work, or chill. Tasty treats & drinks in a self-serve kitchenette.

I went there for about an hour & ended up paying $10 because they didn't have change, even though it's supposed to be $7.50 per hour.
The place is very dusty… it looks like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months. The air quality is also poor, likely because the building is quite old. I found it hard to breathe while I was there.
As for snacks, the options are very basic: plain toast (no butter or cheese, just jam & peanut butter), some stale chips, & instant noodles.
I won't be going back. For the same $10, I'd rather spend time & work in a nice café where I can stay longer & enjoy a cleaner, more comfortable environment.

I absolutely adore Anti-café & everyone who I've recommended it to does too!

I've been going for the past four years pretty consistently, & I am obsessed with the place & the concept.

For about 22$ a day (or hourly rate up until 5h) you can have unlimited tea, coffee & snacks + access to a kitchen for hummus, pancakes, & grilled cheese.

The design is also so fantastic & fantasy coded! I feel like I fell down the mad hatter's coffee shop. The bathrooms are awesome, & they have so many plants :3

They have also a ton of activity, like drawing, movies, & board games, among many others! You can also play a vintage Pac-Man game upstairs.

It can get crowded & loud, especially when big groups have activities planned, but I still really enjoy the place.

Overall I think this is so worth the price. I recommend it to anyone looking for a cram sesh!
