Alep continues to be one of Montreal's most popular restaurants, & it's easy to see why. The service was excellent throughout our visit-friendly, attentive, & welcoming from start to finish. I would highly recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant is always busy & fills up quickly.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, although it can get quite loud when it's full. The menu offers a huge variety of options, but first-time visitors may find the layout a little confusing to navigate.
We started with the hummus, which was absolutely incredible. It was wonderfully creamy with a rich olive-forward flavour & a depth that made it hard to stop eating. We also tried the moutabal, which was smooth, creamy, & tangy with an almost yogurt-like texture that was very enjoyable.
My husband ordered the Chiche Taouk, while I chose the Chiche Kebab with filet mignon. Both dishes were packed with flavour & the quality of the meat was excellent. The only challenge was that they were a little awkward to eat as served-too messy for hands, yet difficult to tackle neatly with a fork & knife. That said, I would absolutely order either dish again; I'd just assemble & eat it a little differently next time.
For dessert, we shared the Knafé Bel Coco. The crispy fried vermicelli topping was easily the highlight & absolutely delicious. The coconut base was tasty as well, although the texture varied somewhat throughout the dessert, with some areas being thicker than others. The fruit topping wasn't quite to my personal taste, but I would happily order this dessert again & simply skip the fruit.
Overall, Alep offers fantastic food, warm service, & a lively atmosphere. Between the outstanding hummus, flavourful mains, & unique desserts, it's a restaurant well worth visiting.
Food was really tasty! The ambiance isn't my cup of tea but the sister restaurant next door has more of a vibe so I will check that one out next time. Portion sizes were a bit on the small side for the price but I will definitely be returning.
Very disappointing experience.
Before visiting, I called the restaurant & specifically asked whether they offered a set tasting menu. I was told they had a discovery menu that included approximately five cold mezze, five hot mezze, & a selection of barbecue dishes for around $60-$80.
Based on that information, I drove 30 minutes to the restaurant. After waiting about an hour, I was served only two very small cold mezze plates, one hot mezze, & a single skewer of barbecue, yet I was expected to pay $80. This was nowhere near what had been described to me over the phone.
When I raised the issue, the staff member argued that she had only been giving an example & was not obligated to honor what she had told me. Since the meal was completely different from what I had been led to expect, I declined to continue dining. However, despite only tasting a small portion of the first appetizer, (attached)I was still charged $21.
The issue is not the money, it is the misleading information, poor customer service, & unwillingness to resolve the situation fairly. Compared with other restaurants serving the same cuisine, this experience was far below expectations.
I would not recommend this restaurant.
J'adore encore & toujours ce restaurant! Excellente nourriture & service incroyable & personnalisé!
My favourite! Authentic, clean & right on spot !
I'm Syrian from Aleppo, & I certify that this is the place to be 🩷
Food was disappointing. The hummus & the stuffed vine leaves were so acidic I could barely finish them. The kefta dish with minty yogourt was also extremely acidic but also too minty. You could also tell that the skewer meat was very dry. Service was good & prices were fair. Will not go back unfortunately
The food was alright, the restaurant was overall very loud, & the service was okay.
All in all, the restaurant was okay, but we wouldn't go again.
Les baklavas sont un must... Les meilleurs que j'ai eu l'occasion de déguster 😊
