Went there for many weddings. Perfect if you don't have much experience with Chinese food nor any standards in general.
Seating and space is very tight for weddings. It means having the waiter's armpit rubbing on side of your head everytime he deposes and takes a plate on and off the table if you are the lucky guest sitting near the aisle (which incidentally i often am). Sometimes the waiter will put his greasy hand on guest's shoulder for him to move to side to allow waiter to put dishes in the middle of the table.
Food is carried out on two level carts. Lower level of the carts is probably 1-2 feet off the ground. Passes awfully close to people's shoes when walking on the filthy dusty rug. It is however entertaining when they do that with the fondue kits which are lit and the women are wearing long gowns. Carts are dirty and greasy and often rub against guests sitting or standing near the aisle.
Clothes retain smell of deepfried food after an evening.
Quality of food is subpar and hygiene standards are very low.
yesterday i ordered $120 for take out and was so disappointed when i arrived home, opened up the food and saw that the shrimp i had ordered were replaced by chicken. I don't even feel like calling because the service was awful when i was in front of the cashier, can't imagine how i would be treated over the phone. I have put up with the lack of service from this place but when the order is screwed up, well this is the final straw.
Great experience at Tong Por. The waiters pass with carts of food and you can select what you like. Everything was delicious. Desserts amazing as well.
We had not been here for some years before we decided to have some chinese food that was somewhere other than Chinatown. I will go back to Chinatown when someone decides to make tasty food instead of cheap food.
But Tongpour had left a good impression on some of us and we were not disappointed when we did return.
The place is not much to look at a large room holding over 300 or maybe even 400 (dim sum sized) and the parking outside is a nightmare to navigate, don't ask.
We always have the same thing because of a very determined member of our group so its Cantonese chow mein, rice and eggplant which is quite good.
The dishes are huge and you can easily feed twice as many persons as you would think. But our determined friend eats nothing that swims or crawls in water and it is too bad because the salt and pepper shrimp are just too good to be true and at about 12$ for 10-12 shrimps they are a steal.
The soups are good and one day we will try something else I am sure .
Need Chinese save yourself the grief of downtown eat here and walk there ..cars are a hazzard near this area
First time we went there in February. Yesterday was our second time. Both times we were extremely pleased. This place so far is the best Chinese place that we have discovered. I also tried Chinese beer for the first time here, which I liked very much.
This is my "go to" Dim Sum place.
Sure the parking is a pain and the line up is at times long on the weekends. But that's part of the charm. Sure beats driving around in circles looking for and paying for parking in Chinatown.
The Dim Sum has a fairly good selection and the quality is above average.
There's a huge Chinese market at the other end of the mall that I like to visit after Dim Sum.
Very good service from the receptionist lady, Lina. Very professional, courtoeus, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. My takeout order was well placed and got there at the right time. A big tip $$ for Lina.
Food is ok but could be a little bit hotter, may be was sitting in the kitchen for a while before being served.
Parking is a bit of a pain, especially when it's party night..
tong por is so good i love the saw peper shrimp and his noodle i recommand it
I used to like this restaurant before when it was named President. I went a few months ago for Dim Sum and I have to say it wasn't that great. I thought it would be better. Last year I went too and I was disappointed of the food as well. It is also expensive to go there.
The dim sum here is passable. Nothing spectacular. Spring rolls were oily and lacked stuffing. The shrimp dumplings had a very mushy exterior and the shrimp had no crunch to it, frozen perhaps. I would rather take the extra drive to go to Chinatown for dim sum.
Verry good restaurant food is amazing not too expensive for the quality and amout of food they serve you and THE BEST SALT AND PEPPER SHRIMPS EVER !!
Bon dim sum !
I am picky about Dim Sum and have tried couple of places known for such, but Tong Por's Dim Sum are imho some pretty good Dim Sums (delicious enough). I only go there on lunch time, where they have couple of ladies passing from table to tables with their dim sum's (along with chinese brocoli, squids, chunks of pork meat) carts.
For the rest, well this is not sophisticated nor elaborate food, so I go there mainly for the dim sum. I had tried couple of very simple chinese fare as well such as shrimp fried rice (which was fine), fried noodles (below average), taro cakes (theirs is delicious). So, a score of 4 if it's just for the dim sum, a 3 for the overall dishes I had there.
Service has always been prompt and decor is very simple/basic.
