The Best Fried Chicken in Montreal and Its Surroundings

Have you noticed all the great fried chicken options that have opened in and around Montreal in the last year? We're sharing our favorites with you here!

Fans of fried chicken at any time of the day or night? Their various locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to satisfy that craving! Savoury, sweet or sweet and salty options are available. They offer wraps, burgers, chicken pieces (with or without waffles), and poutine with fried chicken. So many options, it's hard to resist.

Bird Bar / Henden

The two signs are under the same roof and offer two different atmospheres. Bird Bar is the only fried chicken and champagne restaurant in Montreal's Griffintown while Henden is a speakeasy located in the basement.  All the chicken is natural and high quality from the Voltigeurs Family Farm, raised in the wild and with love, that's what you'll find in every plate from Bird Bar. They have gluten-free options in both individual and family sizes. Go all out with the poutine with popcorn chicken, jalapeno, and fried onions. Guaranteed to please!

Roch le coq

Located in Outremont, this fried chicken restaurant offers buckets and fried chicken sandwiches. Right now, enjoy their specially designed burger with chef Anita Feng, creator of the J'AI FENG project. A recipe featuring a piece of XL size fried chicken topped with Szechuan pepper mayo, soy-marinated cucumber, kimchi, and chili oil. Besides, $1 from each burger sold will be donated to the Montreal Chinese Hospital. Eating well while supporting a good cause is one more reason to go!

Olivia's Authentic Chicken

If you feel like experiencing Korean fried chicken, this is one of the best places to do so in Montreal! What's special about it? It's a double-fried chicken that is often coated in a sticky, spicy, and sweet sauce. If you have a preference for bone-in or boneless pieces, both options are available. Currently, on Somerled Avenue, they are opening a new location in the Brossard Dix30 district very soon!

Jack le Coq

Open since March 2021, this restaurant on Wellington in Verdun is already very popular with lines of people waiting every day. The demand is so great that they have already announced the opening of branches in Mile-End and Laval. They offer a Quebec recipe made entirely of quality chicken, juicy and crispy on the outside. There are several sandwich recipes to try including the Honey Jack made with spicy honey soaked fried chicken tenders, creamy coleslaw, pickles, and honey mustard sauce (shown here). Alternatively, you can get a combo and family boxes of fried chicken or chicken tenders. The service inside is fast, but we recommend you go during off-peak hours!

Bucky Rooster's Fritures

Located in the heart of Saint-Henri, this restaurant was opened, among others, by the two chefs who own Arthurs Nosh Bar. The expectations of the fans were high and they achieved them with flying colours. Everything is homemade, even the sauces (Nosh, Buffalo, brown or sweet mango) and the honey that accompany the fried chicken! The potato bread is also to die for, it's so good! They have buckets with pieces, chicken wings, and chicken strips. Also, go for one of their tasty sandwiches, including a vegetarian option!

Recently opened in Laval, they serve breakfast all day long with their waffles covered in fried chicken with a sweet and sour sauce. They draw their inspiration from California and Nashville cuisine, which brings a little spice to their recipes! This restaurant has been getting a lot of attention on social media and is very popular, so we advise you to be patient when you go there. The food is worth the wait, rest assured!

Restaurant Dobe & Andy

This place is a must in Chinatown, not only for its fried chicken but also to discover the rest of the menu. Excellent Cantonese food to (re) discover! They have a plate of Saigon fried chicken made with their signature recipe and a sandwich served in a homemade Hokkaido bread (Japanese milk bread). For those who want a meatless sandwich, I highly recommend the fried oyster mushroom sandwich with a creamy and spicy Asian coleslaw, a delight!

In Mile End, you will find Bibiko, a Korean restaurant that means bibi (bibimbap) and ko (community). Try their bowl of Korean fried chicken, kimchi rice, homemade coleslaw, and lettuce. For those who like it spicy, you can add the homemade sauce to the bowl! Otherwise, go with their Korean fried chicken burger (dark meat), egg bun, house coleslaw, and lettuce. Plus, they make the breading completely gluten-free! All the sauces offered are homemade.

Dinette Triple Crown

Looking for Southern comfort food? Dinette Triple Crown in the Mile-Ex offers a menu that you can take to the park right next door. Different combos are available: individual and family (for 4) with fried chicken pieces and (gourmet) sides of the week. Absolutely anything you take from this place will be decadent with generous portions!

Hot Star Montréal

This chain comes directly from Taiwan and is now all over the world, including Montreal! Hot Star is known for their extra-large chicken...over a foot long! Super tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Choose the new spiciness you want and it's no joke when they say super spicy! Cheese lovers, they offer cheese-fried chicken! Their Korean option is great too, mixing spicy and sweet. A perfect snack when you walk on Sainte-Catherine!
