Party restaurants abound in Montreal, but some things make the ones below stand out: they're noise friendly, have sharing plates, accommodate all sorts of group sizes, can be booked last-minute… and some don't even require reservations. So, happy birthday! Go eat something yummy! Here are restaurants we recommend for a birthday party in Montreal.

Tapeo

511 Rue Villeray, Montreal, H2R 1H5

View More (514) 495-1999

It was designed as a party place and has remained so since its opening in 2004. Tapeo arguably brought tapas to Montreal, offering Chef Marie-Fleur St-Pierre's Spanish inflected dishes, so packed with flavour that they punch leagues above their weight. It's always a festive atmosphere, any day of the week, and they can accommodate groups of various sizes, especially at the Chef's Table, able to accommodate 18 people just off the kitchen for a special experience indeed.

This huge Chinese restaurant in Cartierville will have space for you anytime, with their average table fitting at least eight. From a weekend morning dim sum feast to an evening Peking Duck faced, they'll serve it all up with a smile! It's also an amazing casual atmosphere where families chat and mail all around you, so feel free to bring the family and laugh at your own jokes as loud as you like.

For smaller celebrations, this Korean grill spot has super cute booths for four or more, which will make you feel like you're in your own little world. The street vibe with anime murals and more is cute and fun, and the central location right by Concordia University makes it super accessible for all your friends. Enjoy quality meats and the fun of grilling them yourself, plus tasty sides galore. And have we mentioned the variety of shoyu? How can it not have a party vibe?

India Beau Village

With the reasonable prices here you can order up a curry for everyone at the table and taste a whole world of spice, including the specialties of chili chicken, lamb rogan josh and fish pakora by the pound. It's easily Parc Ex's largest Indian restaurant, with huge round tables that fit up to 12 people in the main space and booths all around the perimeter. You can show up without reservations, but for larger groups, best to call just a little ahead. Also take advantage of the two-for-one beer nights; there's nothing like a pint of Kingfisher with a side of channa samosa.

Papito Restaurant

This restaurant in the Furco family it's the biggest yet; perfectly suited to both small and big gangs of friends who love absolutely succulent meats and flavour-packed veggie sides that definitely tend towards the rich and indulgent. It's all served in a family-dining style, with big shareable plates set in the middle of the table, so a jolly, happy, bonne franquette feel. Reservations are a must, and if you're a really large gang, they'll offer you a fixed menu to make it extra carefree.

Celebrate your birthday with a god's eye view at this restaurant on the 44th floor of Place Ville-Marie. You'll feel like the world is your oyster, and it can be: get yourself a Caesar as you mull over which pasta you will devour. Gnocchi with sage butter, lemon and Parm? Or maybe radiatore with spicy vodka sauce? For a real birthday festa, follow it up with a black Angus AAA Canadian bistecca and some profiteroles to crown the experience.

La Courtepointe

220 Rue Villeray, Montreal, H2R 2B5

What used to be a beloved neighbourhood watering hole, Miss Villeray, turned into this classier cuisine de marché drinkery that has magically retained all the positive energy and bon vivant liveliness of its predecessor. The small sharing plates aren't actually that small at all, making for a hearty, very good-value meal. You can show up without reservations any night of the week and take over however many tables your group requires. It's cosy for two and a great place for a big gang too.

Neotokyo

425 Avenue Viger O, Montreal, H2Z 1W5

View More (514) 395-2222

Step onto the set of Blade Runner and you'll instantly feel young-Harrison-Ford special. This Japanese eatery downtown is its own universe, both for the authentic izakaya flavours you'll experience and for the moody setting, which has party written all over it. Settle in with your small group, select a nice bottle of sake and say "here's to many more!" with a big bowl of ramen, some incredible mazemen (the carbonara one is nuts) and some impeccable gyoza.

La Piazza

2440 Route des Laurentides, Laval, H7T 1X5

View More (450) 687-2440

The Sunday brunch buffet at La Piazza in the Sheraton Hotel in Laval is birthday heaven, especially considering birthday calories don't count. Make like a beast and feast on this unlimited cornucopia of fresh fruit, cheeses, breads, roast meats, fresh-made omelettes, salads and so much more, not to mention an impossible selection of desserts. Make it simple: try one of everything. The easy parking, personally-tailored food choices and sunny, celebratory vibe make it very family-friendly, and though the price of entry is near $100 a head, the quality makes it still reasonably good value.
