Review Summary

Wok Cafe is widely regarded as a standout destination for authentic, affordable Chinese cuisine in downtown Montreal, consistently praised for its generous portion sizes and flavorful dishes like General Tao chicken, braised beef brisket, and peanut butter dumplings. Guests frequently highlight the efficient, friendly service provided by the staff, which contributes to a welcoming and cozy atmosphere that encourages repeat visits. While the establishment may have a simple aesthetic, it is celebrated for its excellent value, high-quality ingredients, and a diverse menu that caters to various tastes. Although the vast majority of feedback is glowing regarding the consistency and speed of service, potential diners with specific dietary restrictions are encouraged to clarify ingredient details with the staff to ensure their meal aligns with their needs.

Lovely people, owners & staff. Very welcome atmosphere with open kitchen. Place is clean. I'm nice you order it does not take too long for dishes to be served at the table. Their shumai (dim sum) was tasty & light, some of the pork was a little too chewy. General Tao chicken. Found it to have too much breading & the sauce was not the typical general Tao sauce I'm accustomed to as it seems to have a strong citrus to it but I am really not sure. I actually can't describe what the flavouring was for that matter. Crispy fried sesame shrimp also has an odd sauce that we were not used to & as such was the weakest dish we ordered. Shrimp were properly cooked & not too much breading & nice & crisp on the outside. Chicken in black bean sauce was very tasty but lacking sufficient veggies & not much of them except tons of onions. Luckily the onions tasted fantastic. Chicken was what appears to be white meat & was juicy. Spring rolls were way too greasy & the oil smelled off. The spring roll itself was lacking any real flavour or for that matter sufficient amount of meaningful ingredients & as such we left them over. Their white rice was cooked perfectly The tofu general Tao was surprisingly good. The tofu was cooked to a gentle crisp & then covered in general Tao sauce - the same from the other dish. Oddly the sauce was not too bad on the tofu dish The real star of the were the peanut butter dumplings. This was perfect toy cooked, delicate outer dough, filling was proportionate to the size of the wrap, & the sauce was fantastic. Tip. If you have leftover sauce pour it over your white rice it's awesome. I could just go there for plates & plates of the dumplings.

I will be returning here to try other stuff because, based on the rave reviews for some of their other dishes, I suspect that what I had is not one of their specialties. The Singapore noodles were ok, but could have used more spices & meat. The sweet & sour soup was very good. Friendly staff. Large portions & very good prices.

Exceptional food with great taste, & very good service, the only negative thing was that it was cold & there was no music. Other than that, I do recommend.
