⭐? 1/5 Extremely Disorganized, Slow, & Frustrating Experience
My friends & I (a group of about 10) went to Tropical in Montreal on November 28th, & it was honestly one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've had in a long time.
From the moment we arrived, everything was painfully slow. It took a long time just for someone to acknowledge us, & even longer to get water. When we finally did place our orders, our server, who we later found out was brand new, she seemed completely overwhelmed. I don't blame her personally, but I do blame the management. Why would a restaurant assign a table of TEN to someone on their very first day? It felt like we were set up for bad service from the start.
It took around 30 minutes just to receive plantains, & somehow they still got the order wrong. It's plantains… how does that even get mixed up?
The main dishes were even worse. Most of the table got their meals, but I didn't get mine until 30 minutes after everyone else, & my friend received hers about 10 minutes after me……. & it was the wrong order. She then had to wait another 30 minutes for it to be corrected. By that point, everyone else had already finished eating.
Overall, the service was incredibly slow, the kitchen seemed completely disorganized, & the experience just felt chaotic. If you're looking for a quick meal, this is not the place. If you want your order done correctly, definitely not the place. & if you want to feel like your table is being taken care of… also not the place.
I really wanted to like this restaurant, but after this experience, I won't be going back.

Very disappointed. I ordered the food & the oxtail was missing. That's the main ingredient!! I wasted my money for nth. Even the rice, was already cold & dry

Le service donne l'impression qu'ils ne veulent pas de notre argent. On était un groupe de 10 & tout semblait compliqué. L'ambiance & la musique sont biens, les cocktails & la nourriture ok aussi. Mon plat était bien, cela dit on a commandé des frites qui étaient dures à s'y casser les dents.
Je pense que l'ambiance en soirée qui tourne en club pourrait être intéressante, mais pour y manger, je ne recommande pas.

A friend suggested we try Tropikàl Restobar while in Montreal & we were so glad we did.
Food recs-
Griot: pork was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, & packed with flavor
Mac n' cheese: don't sleep on this-sauce was uniquely spiced & literally the best we've ever had
Jerk chicken: juicy, tender, & spiced really well
Drink recs-
Ti-Ponch Fashioned: Nice take on a classic old fashioned; lime bitters & lime zest complimented the white rum well
Tropikal Passion: a unique drink with a sorrel cherry foam & a semi sweet citrusy base
If you're in the mood for comforting food & good vibes, Tropikal is a great option.

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday in their speakeasy. Jessica went above & beyond making sure everything went perfect. The food, drinks, vibes, service were all on point. Big up Tropikal.

Very overpriced. The food is good, but the portions are ridiculously small. You're gonna be paying like 30$ for a few bites of pasta…even the sharing plate with the oxtail & fries was small & we paid like over 50!! We could barely share the fries cuz it just wasn't enough. I'd understand the meat portion being smaller but fries?!!!

Definitely must try!! Wow! The food is amazing! We started off with coconut shrimp & the jerk calamari & both were very tasty. For our mains we had Ox tail & Curry Goat & both were done to perfection! They were both so tender. Staff are friendly & welcoming.

Kenny the mixologist is amazing creating unique drinks fresh with style. Night life at this restaurant too, great vibe, friendly hosts & cool menu.

Very kind staff, cocktails are unique & on point. You won't be disappointed regarding drinks.
My girlfriend is from Jamaica, born & raised, & said'this is something my mom would make...but elevated'.', she stopped eating to look at me, have a triumphant sigh, then say'this is crazy. Wow. Amazing.....this is crazy'.
So if you're look for good Caribbean food, this is it. Go. Now. Stop second guessing. Just do it. Go.
We don't have photos of the food, because it was so good we didn't stop eating. Loving out best pre-instalife in the moment.

My daughter & her friend did not have the best experience the first time, but Jessica went above & beyond to make it up to them. She welcomed them back without hesitation & ensured they had a much better experience. That kind of genuine care & commitment to excellent customer service is rare, & I truly appreciate it. they had a wonderful time & they personally said they would come back again just because of that second experience. Thank you Jessica & the team!
