Trattoria Gio serves a focused menu centered on authentic Italian culinary traditions. The kitchen prioritizes scratch-made pasta dishes tossed in rich, slow-simmered sauces that highlight seasonal ingredients. Pizzas emerge from a high-temperature oven, featuring thin, blistered crusts topped with fresh mozzarella and aromatic herbs. The interior design emphasizes functional simplicity, providing a direct view into the bustling food preparation areas. Diners observe the precise assembly of artisanal doughs and cured meats integrated into signature compositions. This establishment maintains a commitment to classic flavor profiles while adhering to established techniques found across regional Italian cooking styles. The resulting environment fosters a direct connection between the culinary production and the consumption of substantial, ingredient-forward plates that define this specific approach to traditional Mediterranean preparation methods.
Trattoria Gio is widely celebrated for its authentic and flavourful Italian cuisine, with many guests praising the high quality of their fresh pasta, pizzas, and desserts like the tiramisu and chocolate torte. The atmosphere is frequently described as warm, welcoming, and vibrant, especially when enjoyed on the terrace or accompanied by live music in the heart of Old Montreal. While service experiences can vary, many diners highlight the exceptional professionalism, friendliness, and attentiveness of the staff, who often go out of their way to ensure guests feel well cared for and have a memorable dining experience.
What an amazing experience! We came from London, Ontario for a vacation, & I was really craving some good Italian food. We came across this restaurant, saw the great variety on the menu, & decided to give it a try - & I'm so glad we did!
The Vegetariana pizza was absolutely delicious. The dough was beautifully thin, soft, & perfectly cooked, & the toppings were fresh & full of flavour. Every bite was so good!
The pasta was another highlight - incredibly creamy, rich, & full of flavour. I genuinely loved every bite of it. We also tried the Spaghetti Pomodoro, & it was fantastic. The sauce was juicy, fresh, & tasted like it was made with real tomatoes, which made such a difference. Simple, fresh ingredients done really well!
The service was amazing from beginning to end. Everyone made us feel welcome, & we truly enjoyed every moment of our visit.
The atmosphere made the experience even better. They even had people performing live music, which added such a warm & lively Italian vibe to the restaurant. Great food, great service, & a wonderful atmosphere all in one place.
If you're craving authentic, flavourful Italian food, this place is definitely worth trying. We came in hoping for a good Italian meal & left extremely happy & satisfied. Would absolutely come back again! 🇮🇹🍕🍝❤?
Excellent Italian restaurant in Old Port! The food was fresh, flavorful, & beautifully presented. The pasta was cooked perfectly, & the atmosphere was warm & inviting. The service really stood out as well-if you visit, ask for Yassine, who is friendly, attentive, & makes sure you have a great experience. Overall, one of the best Italian dining experiences in the area. Highly recommended!
Had dinner here on Sunday & it was excellent. The food was fresh, flavorful, & cooked perfectly. Every dish was well presented, & the quality was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant & will definitely be back!
Came to this place with some friends from out of town & this place has a great ambience & great music. The food is amazing & the food came right on time. Our server Yassine was amazing he was so kind & made us feel welcome. Yassine's service was outstanding & had our food brought to us quickly & fresh.
I had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. The pasta sauce tasted like it was right out of a can. There was no cheese, & the pasta didn't taste fresh. My friends got the pizza, & it was also nothing special. We were there with a big group, & the service was at least decent & they brought our food fast.
However, the owner or someone working there came over & asked us to leave a positive review in exchange for a free tiramisu. It really felt like a tourist trap, especially considering the price. I paid about $37 for one bowl of pasta, & it just wasn't worth it. I would not recommend this place.
A masterclass in Italian simplicity! The linguine was perfectly al dente, tossed in a silky, golden emulsion of olive oil & garlic. The garlic was sliced thin & toasted to a sweet, mellow finish-no bitterness at all.
?With just the right kick of red chili flakes & fresh parsley, this dish proved that you don't need a heavy sauce to make a massive impression. Highly recommend if you appreciate authentic, well-executed fundamentals.
Amazing fresh pasta & food. Phenomenal service - Yanis gave great recommendations & walked us through the menu with precision & accuracy. Would recommend to anyone in Montreal. 11/10.
We were a group of 6. While having some issues withe order mix up with order but- the food did not disappoint. It was fresh & tasty. Chicken dish was exceptionally good. Pizza was also good. We had a mix up with the order but the establishment was sincerely apologetic & did care to make their customer happy by offering concessions. Would recommend.
Stopped into Trattoria Gio on your last day in Montreal. The atmosphere was very nice. They have outside dinning as well as their main dining room. I loved the copper pipe decor in the back. The food was very delicious. The sauce was definitely one of the better ones in the city. The presentation of the plates could be better. I feel like with the quality of taste they should have fresh parsley as a garnish not dried, & a better parmesan cheese available. Overall I recommend this restaurant for classic Italian cuisine.
