About

Tejano BBQ Burrito merges the bold traditions of Tex-Mex cuisine with the slow-smoked techniques of authentic barbecue. Thick flour tortillas serve as the base for generous portions of savory meats, which are prepared using low and slow heat to ensure maximum tenderness and depth of flavor. Patrons select from a variety of fillings including smoked brisket, pulled pork, and marinated chicken, all complemented by fresh house-made salsas and seasoned rice. The menu focuses on high-protein, handheld items that prioritize quality ingredients and robust spice profiles. Each component undergoes careful preparation to maintain the integrity of classic southwestern recipes combined with distinct smokehouse flair. This concept delivers a streamlined dining experience where the emphasis remains squarely on the synergy between charred proteins and traditional Mexican pantry staples.

Review Summary

Tejano BBQ Burrito is widely recognized for its massive, flavorful portions and high-quality ingredients, particularly the popular shiitake and chicken tinga options. While many patrons praise the friendly, welcoming staff and the overall delicious experience, recent feedback highlights inconsistency in order accuracy and assembly, particularly with delivery services. Some customers appreciate the generous plates and authentic taste, though others note concerns regarding price increases, variable portion sizes, and occasional issues with food temperature or spice levels. Despite mixed experiences regarding service speed and kitchen operations, the restaurant remains a frequent destination for many locals who value its fresh, satisfying meals.

Unfortunately, I am forced to give this restaurant a lower rating due to some negative experiences that I had on January 3 & January 4. This relates to some problems that I had with the food that I had ordered on UBER. I should note that this is not the first time that I had ordered from this restaurant in the past. I have been a fairly regular customer but now I am fairly concerned about continuing to order from this restaurant. I had placed two (2) separate orders on two (2) separate nights & the ordered items did not change whatsoever. I made ZERO changes to the content of the items that I ordered on the menu. In both cases, the orders came with major mistakes, which caused me to feel physically unwell, & I now believe I need to report this publicly because it was such a bad experience. I filed a food safety report with UBER about my situation; originally I had trouble with their system because they do not consider all complaints to be valid. This is a completely different issue from the restaurant itself.
I did speak directly with the restaurant staff on two (2) occasions now about both orders & they were admittedly shocked & surprised that I had this type of experience, let alone that this occurred on two (2) consecutive nights.
I am very sensitive to spice as well as acid, & I am very careful with the food that I consume due to this underlying health condition. I am susceptible to stomach ulcers & to extreme pain if I consume more than the appropriate amount of spice & acid in my food. This is the reason that I always specify that the burrito or burrito bowl should be done with MILD salsa & that there should be ZERO spicy ingredients included in the burrito or burrito bowl.
In this case, I had ordered a regular burrito on both occasions & I asked for MILD salsa, as per usual. On both occasions, the burrito was highly spicy & overbearingly hot. I was not able to eat very much of it because of the level of spice & heat. Whatever I did consume definitely irritated my stomach, & I am now in need of a doctor's appointment. I need to have my health problem reevaluated because clearly it was made worse by what I was eating, & I did not eat very much of the food that was delivered.
After the first incident on January 3, the restaurant offered for me to be compensated with a free meal, but this no longer seems to be all that helpful when the same thing occurred for a second time the following day on January 4. I went & spoke with them today on Monday, January 5 about what happened on the last two (2) days & I was not offered any other form of compensation. They were simply just'shocked' that these incidents happened & said that they would need to look into it. They also did not understand why random ingredients were included in the burrito that I had not requested, including'pickled onions' which I cannot digest. I NEVER include these in the list of ingredients whenever I place an order with this place.
Something has obviously gone majorly wrong with this restaurant, & I am not overly comfortable ordering food from there again if this is going to be the type of experience I end up having repeatedly. I had requested ingredients like'cheese' &'crema' to be included in the burrito & there was very little of this on both nights. Otherwise there was just a lot of spice & a lot of heat, & this was not well compensated or balanced out by any non-spicy ingredients.
The main issue was that I NEVER requested any spicy salsa in the first place & that is exactly what caused me to feel unwell from the food. Although I appreciate the fact that the restaurant did attempt to compensate me for the first experience, they certainly did not offer anything for the second experience, & I thought that they would be a tad bit more concerned after telling them that I had two (2) horrible nights of this with no explanation as to why this happened.

Important things first: This has been our go-to place for many years now. Their burritos are simply amazing! But then we had a disappointing experience, which felt worse for us since we felt we were let down by the place we loved... I mentioned this to Tejano's team - & they actually listened & did their best to fix it. It's great to have them in the neighborhood - as a place to get amazing burritos & as a local business that actually cares about its customers!

Recommendation: try pork ('carnitas') all-dressed burrito with guacamole extra. This one is exceptional at Tejano's - highly recommended!

Not an authentic Mexican restaurant, but it's not pretending to be one either. They are leaning towards Tex More moreso, which is no issue as a concept. There is some seating but it's just some stools, will crowd easily but fortunately when I went it wasn't busy at all. The ingredients are of great variety & decent quality. Just the overall product didn't amaze me, but it satisfied me.

I would kill a man for their shiitake burrito because it is so freaking good. We come back here over & over for the high quality ingredients & supporting a small, local business. By going ourselves, we avoid app-based markup, too!

That said, I think their assembly strategy may need work. After I ordered, I watched the staff place the hot ingredients on the burrito wrap…..& then let them sit for 15 minutes while they did other orders. They actually stated out loud tô one another that they were prioritizing Uber orders over walk-ins, so that seemed a little bizarre & made it kind of frustrating tô watch my amazing shiitake cooling while they tended to other orders. If they're going to do that, I wish they'd at least change the order of operations so that they add hot ingredients only once they're actually ready to top it.

20 minutes later all the toppings were on my burrito & I got to take it away. By this time I was so hungry i decided to take a bite in the car aaand….it was already cold 😅 still tasted pretty fantastic, but I miss their first year of business, when everything was hot & made with such care!

Great burritos, but if you walk in & place an order, it'll take 30-45 minutes where they fulfill Uber Eats orders first while you stand there.

Love the food, but damn that was a shame.

Good food, good service, but they've increased their prices & their vegetarian burrito is simply not worth 20$… it doesn't even include guac in the price

I recently tried the vegetarian burritos at this Tejano restaurant & was really impressed! The taste was delicious, fresh, & full of flavor. The service was excellent as well, I'll be coming back again!

Great food, great service (which is a weird thing to say about a burrito counter) & huge portions. Will be back.

So the burrito chicken bowl was small but remember the'where's the beef' expression so'where's the chicken'. Great taste but expensive for beans rice & a barely there chicken quantity.

I was really excited to try this place, & honestly, the food was delicious! I got the smoked pulled chicken burrito, & my boyfriend ordered the burrito plate. The only downside was the portion size of the burrito plate-it was extremely disappointing. At $21, it felt like a total rip-off. (The photo uploaded is the burrito bowl)
