Whilst most tourists opt for the Montreal Smoked Meat at the iconic' Schwartz'. We decided to follow the recommendations of a few local chefs & head over to another Montreal institution,' Snowdon Deli' instead. In our opinion, in addition to equally if not better tasting Smoked meat, Corn Beef & Brisket, Snowdon also offers a bigger & more varied menu.
The result? A most enjoyable casual lunch with stand-out sandwiches, Jewish deli fare & a mindbogglingly good Chicken soup with dumplings( kreplach)!

Amazing smoked meat, easily as good or better than Schwartz. But the warm atmosphere & pride of craft is really on display. The deli staff shared stories about the food, & made sure we tried all the best stuff. Get the medium fat sliced hot sandwich of course, but also make sure you get a bag of pastries - especially the Hamantaschen - on your way out.
Snowdon Deli is a Jewish deli serving Montréal classics. We came here for brunch during our stay in Canada.
We were keen to try the smoked meat deli sandwich, as we had heard it's one of Montréal's delicacies. We were not disappointed as the sandwich was fulfilling & delicious.
The Potato Latkes was heavy on the stomach, & went well with the accompanying apple sauce & sour cream.
Snowdon Deli remains a staple for those craving classic smoked meat & other satisfying lunch staples. The atmosphere evokes a traditional diner feel - casual, unpretentious, & steeped in local character. The food is consistently well-prepared, delivering on both flavor.
Service is generally courteous & efficient, though it can slow during peak times, particularly on weekends when the restaurant is at capacity. Pricing is on the higher side, & the lack of combo options may leave some patrons wanting more value. Still, for an authentic Montreal deli experience, Snowdon Deli continues to hold its place as a beloved institution.

Excellent Classic Smoked Meat Sandwich.
Had the smoked meat sandwich'medium' & old-fashioned spiced, just as recommended-absolutely excellent. Tender, juicy, & full of flavour. The fries were tasty too, though most pieces were too short /small for my liking. Still enjoyable. Added a cherry Coke for the full throwback deli experience. All around, a great visit.
Stopped for lunch & were able to be seated immediately. Ordered smoked meat sandwiches & fries. The fries were decent & the sandwiches were fantastic. We'll be back!
Heard so much about this place , finally grabbed a smoked meat sandwich to go. Looked small , but packed with meat, just the right combination of fat & flavour. I had a busy day in the city & it is July now, next time I will grab some brisket by the pound
This classic deli serves really one of the best if not the best smoked meat in Montréal. But it is not only their food but the extremely warm & friendly service which has to be mentioned. If you are in Montréal & want to enjoy delicious food with outstanding hospitality you have to go to Snowdon's Deli.
Snowden Deli is probably the last authentic deli left in Montreal.
Form old timers to newbies , this is a must visit in montreal for smoke meat sandwich, Or pick ups from their deli counter: amazing white fish salad?, Chopped liver, & a variety of other deli classics. Expect long lines on weekends for breakfast.
This is a must-stop for us, becoming a tradition to eat brunch here before heading back to Ontario. Fatty brisket sandwich is my favourite. I took home bagel, cream cheese & lox. While I was waiting for my dine-in food, I asked the counter to prepare take-home food to feed my family. They had a package waiting for me at exit. Inside, it looks like time has stood still - love the diner feel, & it's popular with the locals.

This is your classic dumpy diner that serves great food. In this case, if you want a great smoked meat sandwich & some potato pancakes, come here. There's real, authentic & delicious. Also, don't be shy about ordering the'fatty' smoked meat - it's still pretty lean but also delicious!
Good sandwich but pricey & totally weird service from the owner. He told us takeout only at 4:15 when they close at 6, but then continued serving other people that were walking in. Clearly a good spot for locals, but do NOT recommend for any tourists.
Went to Schwartz the past 2 times until someone recommended me to Snowdon Deli. I highly rate their smoked meat sandwich. We also had the Snowdon special & coleslaw. Both were good. I'd definitely come here over Schwartz. I got the fatty cut & absolutely no regrets. There was no line. Service was quick & friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Went way out of our way to grab a smoked meat sandwich on our last day in Montreal & it was sooo worth it. Not only did they hook us up during breakfast time with a togo sandwich, they told us about the history of the spot & it was probably the warmest welcome we had in all of Canada.
