Review Summary

Restaurant L'Orignal is widely celebrated for its cozy, rustic-chic atmosphere that often evokes the feeling of a welcoming cabin or lodge. Guests frequently praise the warm, attentive, and friendly service provided by the team, which significantly enhances the dining experience for both locals and visitors alike. While the majority of patrons rave about the delicious, high-quality offerings such as the bone marrow, bison burger, and various seafood dishes, a few diners noted occasional inconsistencies with portion sizes or seasoning. Overall, the establishment is highly recommended as a charming and memorable destination for a wide range of occasions, from casual dinners to celebratory group gatherings.

Overall really great place to eat at, worth the price. A bit dark when you first enter but your eyes will eventually adjust. Entrance doesn't look like much but the inside is amazing. Really well decorated, sort of a cabin vibe. Very comfy, I really liked the decorations, whoever designed this place I love you. Really lovely seating area, I wish I took a lot more photos so I could use it as reference in decorating my house in the future or something. Anyways, I got fish of the day, very nice, very tasty. Personally liked the chocolate(?) dessert the best. Oysters were great too their hot sauce is really good. I took some of my sister's fries that came with her burger & those were really nice too. Very crisp. Portions were nice. Service was great, nice lady, English friendly. I would definitely come back probably in winter. I feel like it would be really cozy in winter like a hidden haven tucked in a street corner haha.

We ate here 7 yrs ago & we thought these were the best oysters we ever had & thought so for the intervening yrs. Well we remembered the place & returned today & they're still the best oysters ever.
The Halibut was amazing as was the pork schnitzel.
Good to see the same guy/boss from last time.

Apparently I got pictures of the decor & not the food. This was a great spot around Old Montreal. My husband was obsessed with the marrow. I loved the tagliatelle. The beef tartare is hard to rate because it just wasn't to my taste, but may be to others. It needed some crunch & had a lot on it. The oysters were excellent.

Delicious, fresh oysters, shucked at the bar by casual, friendly owner. Beef tartare was as good as it gets. The bone marrow lived up to its reputation & was simply outstanding. Reasonably priced wine for the area. Tried some fantastic Canadian wines as well. Regular customers friendly & had great chats at the bar. Outstanding atmosphere with the feel of a place that's under constant care & love. Do not miss this place.

Our dinner here was amazing. We started with the Oysters which were outstanding & very unique, was excited to try some from PEI as we rarely see them in New England. We each had specials for our mains & they were also very good & thoughtfully executed. Service was fantastic! We always try to visit new places when we are in Montreal but it will be hard not to stop back in to L'Original when we come back next year.

Sat at the bar & got chatting to the owner as he opened oysters. His attention to detail & quality was evident & is reflected in the excellent food & drink served here. I will be coming back.

Food was good but the service was odd. A little pricey for portions & lack of accommodations. *check the bill before paying-
Had oysters, beef tartare, kale salad, beef tag, bison burger, salmon special & 2 desserts. Everything was great & tasted as good as could be expected without surprises (good or bad), so pretty straight forward. The beef tartare was a little tough & the bison burger was a little dry. Burger was sent back the first time but 2nd time was much better. Salmon special was great. Desserts were both good but enjoyed the pudding the most.
We had a reservation & not sure if it was because we were American or that we had our 2 kids with us but had service reminiscent of a diner in Brooklyn I used to go to. Friendly if you're easy but otherwise rushed & not willing to make any accommodations. We really didnt ask for much & we spent $350 with 4 people, even with 2 kids. The shady part was the extra 2 glasses of wine slipped on the bill. I'll never know for sure if it was an accident or not but it felt like she tried to get one by with how she handled the bill.
In conclusion, food was good, pretty cool atmosphere but a little pricey for the overall experience.
