When visiting friends in the Montréal area, Stephanie & I were taken by them to Restaurant Kampot. What a fantastic evening we all had there. We were rather surprised to find so exotic an establishment in the Faubourg shopping complex. The atmosphere, being evocative of southeast Asia was inviting. Service was prompt & efficient being, as one would expect in the region, provided in both English & French. First off was a cocktail & there was a lengthy list to choose from & the choosing was difficult as many were tempting. Those were promptly served & consumed while more decisions were made. It was difficult to decide just which appetizers to order so a sampler platter was chosen ... & that was an excellent choice! Eventually several entrees were selected from a varied menu which include specialties from Thailand & Vietnam &, bien sûr, Cambodia. All were excellent, the Cari Panang au boeuf, the Amok hommard, the Pad Thai & the particularly tasty Ramen alla marsala. We shared the Big BB bao; a unique & delicious dessert. When next we visit Montréal we will definitely be dining at Kampot!
I got to see them work up close at a First Friday food event. The papaya salad was amazing - flavors melded perfectly together, worked in a large mortar by hand. The mango sticky rice had rice steamed in a traditional straw vessel lined with a cloth, cooled just the right amount, fluffed, & carefully mixed with the coconut milk & sugar. They are dedicated, don't waste any tasty morsel of the mango, & serve excellent food!
Rouleau printemps avec un petit bout de crevettes juste rempli de vermicelles, salade, menthe. Sec & sans goût. Repas principal de boeuf beaucoup trop salé, boeuf raide, riz aux tomates sans goût & quelques tranches de concombre & tomates qui trempent dans la sauce chaude. Très ordinaire pour 50$
First of all, i dont think this restaurant deserves negative reviews & below 5 star reviews. 5 star all the way !!! After trying most of the restaurants in the area for date nights, this one is so far the best one! My partner & I were happily surprise by the quality & amazing taste of every dish we ordered. We were not expecting it to be sooo good. This is definetly not our last time visiting. Every dish was perfectly seasoned. Wont even talk about the pricing. Worth every penny. We really enjoyed the vietnamese coffee. & the citronella skewers were out of this world good. We ordered a mixed appetizer platter, beef lok lak, fried chicken tuk tuk & the bao dessert & we are already looking forward to our next visit ! Absolutely impeccable friendly service ! Thank you !!!
South-asian fusion twist to different dishes. Had poutine tuk tuk (poutine with fried chicken but sauce was too sweet), pad thai, amok (we expected it to be wrapped in banana leaf however pan fried fish was in an amok sauce, sauce was tasty) & beef lok lak (sauce too sweet but otherwise tasty). Service took a bit longer than expected.
