About

Punjab Canteen serves a diverse selection of traditional Indian dishes with a distinct focus on vegetarian recipes and charcoal-grilled specialties. The menu highlights bold flavor profiles achieved through authentic spice blends and high-heat preparation techniques. Guests encounter a variety of protein alternatives crafted from paneer, lentils, and fresh vegetables seasoned to reflect classic regional standards. The open kitchen layout emphasizes the process of grilling skewers and preparing breads within traditional tandoor ovens. Each platter showcases intricate spice balance rather than relying solely on heat levels, providing a comprehensive view of subcontinent culinary practices. The environment prioritizes functional, no-frills service that maintains a consistent focus on ingredient quality. This establishment delivers straightforward preparations of staple recipes that cater to those seeking genuine aromatic profiles and traditional cooking methods.

Review Summary

Punjab Canteen is widely recognized for serving delicious, authentic Punjabi cuisine with fresh ingredients and generous portions. Many patrons praise the flavorful dishes, such as the butter chicken, various paranthas, and dal makhani, often highlighting the warm, homemade quality of the food. While the majority of guests have glowing remarks about the welcoming atmosphere and attentive, friendly service, some diners have noted occasional inconsistencies regarding wait times, menu accessibility via QR codes, and specific spice levels. Overall, the restaurant is frequently recommended as a top destination in Montreal for those seeking a genuine and comforting Indian dining experience.

I had bad experience at punjab canteen ( Queen marry ) , i waited for amritsari kulcha for more than one hour , & the taste of the food was not good , & its was not looking fresh even . I recommend them to improve their preparation time , if they cannot provide the food on the time , they need to tell the costumers before . it was totally wastage of time & money .

I had a disappointing experience at Punjab Canteen. I arrived at around 4:50 Pm & ordered around 5:05 PM & asked for a veg thali, but the staff told me it was only served until 5:00 PM. What's frustrating is that this timing was not mentioned anywhere on the menu or displayed in the restaurant, which is misleading for customers.

Since the thali wasn't available, we ordered chana bhatura & Amritsari naan. Unfortunately, the food quality was very poor. The chutney served with the chana bhatura & the Amritsari naan had a bitter taste. On top of that, both the naan & bhature seemed undercooked & were very thick also the chana tasted undercooked & tasted like a Ready to eat chana, which made them unpleasant to eat.

Overall, the lack of clear communication & poor food quality made this a bad experience. Definitely needs improvement. Never visiting this restaurant again.

Had a wonderful experience at this Indian restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious-full of authentic flavors & perfectly prepared. What really made our visit special, though, was the exceptional service. Anu, our waitress, was incredibly helpful, attentive, & warm throughout the meal. She made great recommendations & ensured everything was just right. Her friendly attitude truly elevated our dining experience. Highly recommend this place, & a big thank you to Anu for making our visit so enjoyable!

The best part Brian food I've had in a long time. Modern decor, nothing fancy but the food is very very very good. The naan bread was perfect & fluffy. The aloo Gobi was a good texture, The paneer butter masala was delicious. The samosas were very flavourful & not greasy. Washed it down with a mango lassi that was very refreshing. I want to go back & try all their dishes.
