Mexico specializes in the preparation of traditional Latin American and Mexican staples with a focus on authentic flavor profiles. Patrons encounter a menu defined by hand-pressed corn tortillas and slow-cooked meat preparations that anchor the taco selection. Ingredients such as dried chilies, fresh cilantro, and tangy tomatillos serve as the foundational elements for every dish served. The interior environment prioritizes a functional and straightforward approach to communal food enjoyment without unnecessary ornamentation. Kitchen operations emphasize the precise assembly of classic regional recipes ranging from spiced carnitas to savory barbacoa. Every item reflects a commitment to the fundamental techniques of authentic Mexican gastronomy. This establishment provides a direct culinary experience centered on the consistency of its core ingredients and traditional preparation methods.
This restaurant has earned a strong reputation for offering authentic, generous, and budget-friendly Mexican cuisine, making it a favorite for many diners in Montreal. Guests frequently praise the high quality of popular dishes like birria and al pastor tacos, noting the lively atmosphere and efficient service as key highlights of their experience. While the vast majority of patrons are impressed by the value and flavor, feedback occasionally highlights inconsistencies regarding service attentiveness, potential issues with specific orders, and some differing opinions on the authenticity of certain recipes. Despite these isolated critiques, the overall consensus remains highly positive, with many customers expressing enthusiasm about returning to enjoy the diverse menu and welcoming environment.
Had the birria tacos here & they were absolutely delicious! The meat was tender, flavorful, & paired perfectly with the rich consommé. Fresh ingredients, great portions, & excellent service made the experience even better. Definitely one of the best spots for authentic Mexican food on Jean-Talon. Highly recommend!
We visited this place on a Friday night, & despite it being absolutely packed, we were able to find a table without waiting too long. The atmosphere was lively, the service was quick & friendly, & from the moment we sat down, we knew we were in for a good meal.
I had suggested trying this restaurant after reading in an article that it was one of the best places for tacos in Montreal & surprisingly affordable. The reviews were spot on. Seeing 4 tacos for only $7.50 almost made us think they would be tiny, so we ended up ordering far more than we needed. To our surprise, the tacos were actually generously sized & packed with filling.
Every taco we tried was delicious & full of flavor. It's honestly hard to pick a favorite, but the birria & the pollo stood out the most. We ordered a variety, so after a while it became difficult to remember which was which, but none of them disappointed.
We also shared the guacamole with chips & traditional refried beans, both of which were excellent. The staff checked in on us regularly, & the food came out quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. They don't serve alcohol, so no spicy margarita with the tacos, but they do have authentic Mexican Coca-Cola made with sugar cane & a great selection of Jarritos, which definitely added to the experience.
One thing that really impressed us was how well the food held up the next day. We had plenty of leftovers, including tacos & a quesadilla that we didn't even touch at the restaurant. I was expecting the tortillas to become soggy overnight, but they were still fantastic the next day. We simply added some fresh chopped onion & cilantro at home, & they tasted almost as good as they had the night before.
The restaurant was also showing the World Cup on four TVs, & I appreciated that they turned off the background music so everyone could actually hear the match. It's a small detail, but it created a fun atmosphere for soccer fans.
To finish, we took a flan home for dessert, & it was delicious, smooth, fragrant, & not overly sweet.
Overall, this is an easy recommendation. Great value, generous portions, authentic flavors, fast service, & easy street parking on Jean-Talon. We've tried tacos at many places around the city, & this one has quickly become one of our favorites. We'll definitely be back.
Besides offering generous portions, the lack of authentic Mexican taste & the noticeable decrease in flavor have made this place feel like a restaurant that simply wants to be Mexican, rather than one that truly represents Mexican cuisine.
As a Mexican, I would definitely not recommend it as a place that represents my culture. The lengua tacos were cooked in a strange way, the birria tacos were so watery that the tortilla could barely hold together, & the consommé was so greasy that it left an oily aftertaste. The chilaquiles also tasted as if they had been seasoned with pre-made sauces rather than fresh, authentic flavors.

Don't expect you're going to be eating at the Ritz Carlton... but when it comes to the food & service it's super dooper good,. Tasty, fast service, plentiful & budget friendly. Highly recommend: taco-birrias, quesabirrias & the taquitos (4 tacos with variety of meats for $7 bucks 🤩)... that's what I'm talking about baby!
have pretty mixed feelings abt this place lately. its a convenient neighborhood spot but the service was a bit cold when calling in an order.. food was also a letdown compared to before, the tacos al pastor lacked that traditional taste & seasoning was totally missing. decent 3 star choice for a casual bite but def not a top recommendation unless things change
