Review Summary

Marché Hung Phat is widely regarded as a staple in the community, primarily known for serving some of the best and most affordable banh mi in Montreal. Many patrons appreciate the fresh ingredients, quick service, and the authentic, classic recipes that have made it a go-to spot for years. While the overwhelming majority of experiences are positive, some long-time customers have noted a recent decline in the generosity of meat portions and fluctuations in consistency depending on who is preparing the sandwich. The establishment also offers a variety of Asian snacks, drinks, and soups, providing a convenient and casual environment for a quick lunch despite occasional concerns regarding customer service interactions or specific topping preferences.

One of the best banh mi in the area ! My boss(e)s's were the one who suggested me to try at that place & I bought a few for my boss(e)s's & I to share together!

Has a lot of things there too like sauces, drinks, ramen & I saw some of my childhood chips/cookies! (I had to grab a pocky there) have a nice varieties there & it's like THE spot to go eat banh mi at in still a pretty decent price 🥰

They do banh mi on the order & it taste really good ! I took the'B1' (the original one) on their menu & was a great lunch during our break time 🫶

I'm a regular customer there & staff there are very efficient working there & never got disappointed everytime I eat banh mi or their pre-made food they packed on a fresh daily basis! ❤?

Just a block from the popular Jean-Talon Market, Marché H?ng Phát is a Vietnamese grocery that also serves bánh mì sandwiches for only $7 CAD-easily one of the best food deals I found in Montreal. For $2 CAD more, you can add extra meat, which I highly recommend.

Inside, there's a large shared table with 6-8 seats & a counter with another 5-6 spots. It's casual but convenient for a quick bite. On my first visit, I tried the grilled pork & found the meat portion very thin, so the second time I ordered extra meat, which made a big difference. The sandwiches are served in classic style with house-made mayo, pickled carrots & daikon, jalapenos, & cucumber.

I also tried the BBQ pork option, but it turned out to be more like deli-style sandwich meat, not the char siu BBQ pork I was hoping for-so I wouldn't order that again. Other options include beef, meatball, & shredded chicken.

The menu is written in Vietnamese, French, & English. The staff preparing the sandwiches may not be fluent in English, but they understand enough that you can point, & the staff at the register do speak English. Pro tip: if you're dining in & want your sandwich toasted, ask while they're making it-before it's wrapped-& they'll toast it for free.

If you're already visiting Jean-Talon Market, this is a fantastic stop for an authentic, affordable bánh mì.

I love this place for its convenience & the fact that they are truly delicious banh mi's. The only downfall is one employee who really does not put any love in making the sandwiches & most times skimps out on the ingredients, the rest of the team are friendly & clearly put care into making a good banh mi but it's really a shame that I leave disappointed whenever I get my sandwich made by what seems to be one of the managers… for the most part I love this place but I truly am bummed out when I see it's them making my sandwich:

It's good, but Nguyen Huong in Toronto is better. Sorry Montreal!
