About

Marché Hung Phat operates as a specialized Vietnamese deli centered on the assembly of traditional banh mi sandwiches and authentic prepared goods. The kitchen focuses on crusty baguettes layered with savory pâté, pickled daikon, fresh cilantro, and high-quality grilled proteins that reflect classic Southeast Asian flavor profiles. Patrons frequent this counter-style destination for quick access to marinated meats, assorted charcuterie, and various essential pantry items imported directly from the region. The inventory highlights distinct spices, noodles, and specialty sauces that define the culinary identity of the establishment. Review Summary

Marché Hung Phat is widely regarded as a staple in the community, primarily known for serving some of the best and most affordable banh mi in Montreal. Many patrons appreciate the fresh ingredients, quick service, and the authentic, classic recipes that have made it a go-to spot for years. While the overwhelming majority of experiences are positive, some long-time customers have noted a recent decline in the generosity of meat portions and fluctuations in consistency depending on who is preparing the sandwich. The establishment also offers a variety of Asian snacks, drinks, and soups, providing a convenient and casual environment for a quick lunch despite occasional concerns regarding customer service interactions or specific topping preferences.

I’ve had my share of Bahn Mi in the city & they are top of my list. They keep well during travel as well. Always a line but it moves fast.

Finally! I think I've found the best & cheapest bun bo Hue (at $12.50 +tax) in Montreal. Made to order with a very robust broth, ample sliced beef shank, cha lua sausage, & optional pork hock (I opted to replace it with extra bean sprouts), perfectly chewy bun noodles, & abundant toppings of herbs + thinly sliced onions. The photo shows only half of what I received in my order.
They have two vegetarian banh-mi options, seasoned tofu & mushrooms; both were also excellent & priced at $6.50 each. There are many meat banh-mi options & several soup noodles, including bun rieu.

Despite the never-ending line, service was efficient & friendly. This is primarily a take-out & grocery store, with one table & 4 chairs. They have reasonably priced bubble teas, che desserts, & other prepared Vietnamese treats. A true neighborhood gem.

Je n’avais jamais goûté ce genre de sandwich. J’ai pris le bœuf sauté citronnelle & j’ai été très déçu du goût. C’était vraiment moyen.

Super yummy & friendly Vietnamese Banh Mi & Vietnamese shop on Saint Denis St. in Montreal.

This place was recommended to me by a friend who had recently travelled to Montreal & it certainly didn't disappoint. The little shop is set up as part Asian snacks, quick take out meals (i.e. Salad rolls, banh cuon, spring rolls), order at the counter meals (i.e. Banh mi, pho) & then Asian drinks to go (i.e. Iced Vietnamese coffee, bubble tea). Basically, it's a one stop Vietnamese yum yum food shop. It definitely had a small family owned vibe.

My immediate response upon entering Marche Hung Phat was that I wanted to eat & try everything! I ended up picking up some vegetarian spring rolls, banh cuon, 2 banh mi subs & 2 Vietnamese coffees. I really loved that Marche Hung Phat had vegetarian options - spring rolls & 2 different types for banh mi subs. The gentleman at the counter was helpful & friendly & lady behind the counter was quick to make our subs.

Since the shop is small & is set up partly as a convenience store, there are no tables or dine in spots (at least not that I noticed). We ended up eating back at our hotel & the banh mi's certainly didn't disappoint. The buns were fresh & the subs were delicious, same with the rolls & the banh cuon.

If you're in the area & need a Vietnamese food fix, please stop by & check out this great little place!
