Mon amie & moi avons donc décidé d'y aller.
We went for the sugar brunch. Food was delicious. The hot chocolate was divine. I wish only that they would take reservations, or find a different system. We arrived, paid were given 2 plates & had to wait couple of minutes for a table to become available.
Went to a sugar shack event here's the good, the bad, & the ugly.
The Good
The food was excellent. Highlights included the maple'pouding chômeur' absolutely amazing & the mini apple pies, which were perfectly executed.
The Bad
The buffet-style setup made it challenging to move through the line smoothly. Food was displayed on top of a bar-height counter with heat lamps. If you're shorter, it's very difficult to reach. Even for me, serving myself pea soup from a kettle placed that high was awkward & not practical.
The layout is not designed for the volume they're handling. It creates choke points & long, uncomfortable lines due to limited space.
Another issue with this setup is that you need to plan your entire meal in one pass grab your drinks, cold items, pastries, & hot food all at once. There is also a missed opportunity for upselling, as there is no table service for items like cocktails.
The Ugly
You have to pay upfront, which is fine, but you're then given an empty plate as proof of payment. Seating is first come, first served, wherever you can find space. The dining room also doubles as a café/market, which negatively impacts the overall atmosphere. It feels like a disconnect between the intended refined décor & the actual experience.
The staff were pleasant, but they seemed unprepared for the volume of guests. They were reacting rather than operating with a clear plan.
Opportunities for Improvement
1- Increase the number of coffee thermo (there was a 15-minute gap with no hot coffee available)
2-Create multiple service stations over a larger area to reduce congestion
3-Separate cold sections (e.g., one fridge for smoothies & juice, another for items like cretons & cheese)
4-Improve food temperature hot items were not consistently served hot
Conclusion
I would give them another chance. The fundamentals of the food are strong, & the service & setup issues seem fixable with better planning & execution.
Macarons $3/each.
I took chocolate & caramel, & strawberry.
They were small. The taste was fine.
Good location to pass by & get something to drink & eat. Run by an amazing team.
If not here, Kréma (café) is available on the other side.
There is a variety of food, drinks & other items available to buy.
-Food: Sandwiches, sushi, pastries, desserts, cakes, chocolate, pizza, crêpe, & charcuterie are highlights.
-Drinks: Coffee, tea, & different drinks.
If you need desserts or cakes, this is definitely a place to check out. Charlotte cake is very good.
Around Christmas, holiday logs & other limited time offers are available.
Loved the small Christmas logs, delicious & fresh. You can find here sandwiches, donuts, coffee & more. Great service 😀
There are many interesting products, like black garlic paste & black garlic salt, as well as delicate alpaca & bear plush toys. The spacious seating, along with the appealing coffee, pastries, & cakes, make it very inviting.
Incredible venue with so many options for all us foodies.
Crepes were so-so. Otherwise everything was outstanding!! 🫶🏽
Took the family for Drag Brunch for the second year in a row. The performers were once again at the top of their game, but what impressed me this time was that the food had markedly improved. Last year, it was sort of an afterthought & a little embarrassing for a Fairmont. This time, the eggs, potatoes, & poultry sausages were all hot & delicious.
