Review Summary

Kalye Restaurant is widely described as an authentic Filipino spot with generous portions, bold flavors, and good value. Diners rave about sizzling sisig with crispy skin and egg, garlic rice, chicken inasal, lechon, pork BBQ, lumpia Shanghai, and pancit palabok, often noting the dishes are well seasoned and served with tasty sauces. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with friendly staff, complimentary soup at the start, and even Filipino karaoke that adds to the experience. While many find the food delicious and comforting, some mention a bit of oiliness in the sisig and there is one note about a past instance of food poisoning, underscoring the need for consistent quality. Overall, Kalye Restaurant emerges as a strong introduction to Filipino cuisine in Montreal, appreciated for authenticity, substantial portions, and a memorable dining experience for first time visitors and regulars alike.

AMAZING restaurant I went to with a friend on a Thursday night. It was freezing out & but there were still a few customers when we entered. It felt like a legit, authentic restaurant in Southeast Asia honestly, with the decor & the TVs playing food vlogs. I personally have not had Filipino food before so I was equally wary & anticipatory of the flavours to come.
A Filipino friend basically ordered for us: sizzling crispy sisig with egg & the chicken inasal with java (a type of lemon rice, I learned) that came with Shanghai rolls & a drink. Oh. My. Goodness. I don't think anything could have prepared me for this. The chicken: the crisp skin & tender meat was unbelievable. The sisig: so flavourful & hot & juicy; it was MINDBLOWING. Now I have never had it before so I don't know if they're all this incredible but I don't care THIS is the place to enjoy it!!! It is verryyy oily though, even after asking if it could be modified to be less so, so I would only order it once a month lol. Not to mention we were served a nice warm complimentary chicken soup. This plus the rice was great in complementing the meat dishes. The spring rolls were so delightful & crispy! Was not expecting a roll of meat inside it but I am not complaining in the slightest.

I am SO HAPPY with my first venture into Filipino food. I was a little worried about eating different parts of a pig that I had never tried before but that was completely unnoticeable upon every bite. Our server was kind & patient. I will be back for more, Kalye. The next time I come to Montreal, it's a MUST! 😋

Incredibly authentic food. Pata was full of collagen. Sauce with the lechon was delicious. Lumpiang was crunchy & amazing. All the sauces were tasty. The bbq pork was incredible. Perfect garlic rice. All very reasonable prices. Huge portions. The service was kind & helpful. Plus while waiting, get the wonderful experience of filipino karaoke. 10/10!!

We came here wanting to see how Filipino cuisine in Montreal compares to Toronto. After checking Reddit, we were originally planning to go to Cuisine de Manille, but ended up getting lost due to road closures & no parking. We then found ourselves at Kalye, which was another Reddit-recommended spot-especially for their sizzling plates.

Of course, we had to try the sizzling sisig with garlic rice. It was surprisingly really good, though we felt it could use a bit more spice & could have been crispier. Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the lumpia shanghai, which is why the overall rating is a bit lower.

Still, it was a solid experience & a good introduction to Filipino food in Montreal.
