Review Summary

Dutty Yea is described as a hidden gem with bold flavors and generous portions, blending Jamaican jerk with Japanese influences in bowls like Dutty Nonnie and Pon Pon Jerk, plus a coco and curry chicken option that many find standout. Reviews praise the chicken, noting it’s tasty with a good char and plenty of meat, the sorrel drink and a vanilla raspberry swirl ice cream as pleasant extras, and the overall presentation as fresh and appealing. The staff are consistently described as warm, friendly, and attentive, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. Some diners mention price concerns or occasional price display issues, and a few meals feel less special for the cost, though most agree the flavors and portions justify the visit. The noted soft launch with limited rice options gave guests extra potatoes and a sense of flexibility, and the location is described as a healthy addition to the neighborhood worth a detour, especially on sunny days near the park. Overall, Dutty Yea appears to be a chef driven option that delivers memorable flavor and care, with room to improve consistency and pricing clarity.

My experience at this restaurant was a disappointment. The chicken in my bowl was not well cooked or properly cleaned. The bowl itself was mostly just rice, salad & onions with a few small pieces of pineapple. Coriander was listed as an ingredient but was completely missing, & overall, the taste was underwhelming. Despite the staff mentioning a new & unique concept behind the bowl, I didn't see or taste anything special.

Great addition in the neighbourhood!

My girlfriend & I got a bowl each. I took the Ponpon Jerk chicken & she chose the Yuzu BBQ chicken. As the restaurant is still in its soft-launch, they didn't have enough rice for two bowls so they swapped the rice for roasted potatoes & they offered us a free Sorrel drink.

The chicken in both bowls was very tasty, with great sauces that added depth & complexity. The chicken was slightly charred on the edges, which is perfect for jerk chicken in my opinion. At first, I thought it wasn't spicy enough, but the heat built up as I was eating & ended up being just right. I particularly liked the salad with pineapple salsa : it was fresh, slightly tangy & fruity & added a lot of balance to the whole plate. I'm not used to pineapple in a salad, but it was a very pleasant surprise. As for my girlfriend's bowl, the sauce was even tastier & the potatoes were perfectly seasoned. Her salad didn't stand out as much as mine, since it didn't have pineapple in it. Finally, the sorrel drink wasn't really my cup of tea, as I don't really enjoy cloves. I thought it was a bit overpowering, especially while eating the chicken.

The staff was really friendly & helpful. You could tell the employee who served us was proud to serve the food offered on the menu, which is always a good sign!

As Jamaican food is pretty hard to come by in Montreal, this spot is worth a detour, especially on a sunny day, so you can enjoy eating in the park on the other side of the street. We will definitely come back!
