Dunn's Famous is widely regarded as a staple for traditional deli food in Montreal, particularly known for its generous smoked meat sandwiches, flavorful coleslaw, and famous pickles. While many patrons praise the speedy service, consistent quality, and late-night accessibility, experiences can be inconsistent, with some guests noting issues regarding portion sizes, pricing, and the texture of the meat or fries. The atmosphere is generally described as classic and family-friendly, though occasional service lapses and peak-hour noise are mentioned. Overall, the restaurant remains a popular choice for those craving authentic deli staples and classic desserts like cheesecake, despite varying opinions on value and specific dish preparation.
After many Montreal visits staying in other areas of town, this was my first time staying here near Decarie, so of course I had to visit both Snowdon Deli & this Dunn's location. After being totally disappointed down the road at Snowdon, Dunn's redeemed the area. Had an excellent smoked meat Reuben (sans sauerkraut)..:the meat was plentiful & flavorful & the skin-on fries were also solid (& too much…I left many over). I did leave room for their famous strawberry cheesecake, & it lived up to the hype (& I also couldn't finish it!). Service from server Dino was friendly & on point. Highly recommend!
Got the super deluxe combo & friend tried the cheesecake. The combo was good but fries was a let down - the pickle was the best part but the meat was really good! Cheesake was'fluffy & 7.8'

Grabbed some take out as the hotel next door. We had the Soup, mac & cheese, poutine, & small sandwich (6oz) combo. The sandwich was ok, i would not order again, tasted ok, had to add more mustard, the bread was soggy, not sure if it's the location as others said the original location is the go to. Mac & cheese is amazing, the meat was chopped up & looked almost like a bacon crumble it was great & would def get it again. The soup was ok, barely warm, better with some pepper & a pinch of salt. The poutine wasn't that great, the famous pickle & coleslaw (tastes like its made with a B&B pickle brine) were excellent. The regular fries were good. I read the cheesecake is good but we didn't order it this visit.
Best smoked meat in Montreal, in my opinion.
Smoked meat wasn't salty, just enough fat for flavour, served hot & very quick. Fries were very tasty as well.
Definitely a must to do in Montreal.
I wrote a long detailed review then decided it should be short & curt to make sure people read it. Total rip off...AGAIN! the smoke meat in the Reuben was not steamed enough making it rubbery & chewy. I had to ask for the dressing. The waitress offered wonderful customer service where I declined her graciously offer to bring another as it would have taken too long & it would have been the same. My mistake because when I got home I had a Swiss cheese sandwich (note how the cheese is not melted, no saukraut, & NO SMOKE MEAT)! The pictures tell the story. The French fries were also a great disappointment. Usually a great part of the meal that turned out to be fries that were lukewarm & reminded us of 3pm end of a buffet fries. Do better...so sad. PLEASE NOTE: I asked for the meat to be on the fat side...
Wife & I both had the smoked meat combo, & was really good. The meat wasn't salty, & was the right temperature. The smoked meat egg rolls are addictive!
The server was pleasant & served us well.

Served up a medium fat Super Jumbo Smoked Meat Sandwich, with Fries, coleslaw & a dill. Washed down with a pint of Heineken.
Served by the smiling & friendly Kassandra.
My wife had The Honey Mustard Chicken Salad with a Sangria
Had to be cut by a master cutter as it was juicy & tender, almost shaved slices.
For dessert a lovely slice of their Carrot Cake.
My favourite from their menu is the 1927 burger.
I feel like they've improved on their fries & their burgers are amazing. If you're craving a good burger, you won't be disappointed.
Prices are on par & service is fine. It can get noisy when you go during peak hours though
Ordered the smoke meat (lean) platter, but was disappointed: slices were too thick & lacked that classic saltiness you'd expect from Montreal smoke meat. Fries were decent, though. & the music playing (classic 80s mix) was a whole nostalgic vibe!
