DonDonYa is a small, cozy, unpretentious spot in Montreal that diners consistently praise for generous portions, tasty Japanese and Asian fusion dishes, and very reasonable prices, with frequent notes about friendly service, a welcoming homey vibe, and a menu that includes gyu don, tonkatsu, chashu don, miso cucumbers, and yam fries; while the space can feel cramped and can get crowded at dinner, leading to wait times, a few visits mention inconsistent dish quality, and occasional misfires like curry, the overall verdict is positive and DonDonYa remains a reliable, affordable go to for students and locals seeking comforting, well-executed fare.
Petit restaurant intimiste. Ca sent déjà bon quand on rentre! On a tellement bien mangé c'était excellent! Le service est rapide, la serveuse souriante, la nourriture top! Un vrai coup de coeur!

Very delicious food- we got the gyoza, curry tonkatsu, classic katsu & both miso & udon noodle soup. All was amazing. Super cute hole in the wall place. We would definitely return if back in the area.
Cute & cozy spot with tasty food! Took a group of six here for a friends' meetup & was looking for a casual place with delicious food that's not bougie or expensive. Our group tried a number of different dishes including the katsu & a number of appies including miso soups, gyozas, spicy cucumbers, & the deep fried yam. Everyone had a great time while eating a tasty meal. Thank you for accommodating us in your small space! The staff stayed late for us to finish our meal too 🙏🏻 Do note that a lot of the items on the menu are fried; if you're not okay with that, maybe take a second look at the menu.

Good japanese food at a decent price! Ordered take out & got the curry katsu, katsu, & tawainese chicken nuggets. Both katsu dishes were good. The curry was on the runny side, I wished it was a bit thicker to coat the rice. The taiwanese chicken nuggets were also good, however, the portion size was small. Only half the container was filled, which was disappointing. Would go back to try the other rice donburis on the menu.
Very tiny place, with taiwanese/chinese classics ! Took the fried tofu Don, my friend took the Gyudon, & we treated ourselves to some ice drinks as well ! Quick, good budget & good portions ! & very good of course ! Great spot downtown ! The interior has limited space, keep that in mind!
I got a couple sides as a snack & they were both amazing. The cucumber salad has such light crunchy cucumbers like I've never tasted! & the fried tofu had such an amazing texture, flavor & sauce to go with!
Great spot for Japanese curry & fried onigiri! We had the curry Tonkatsu & Yasai udon noodles, they were generous portions & delicious! The waiter was also warm & welcoming.

Had a great experience here. The atmosphere was very cozy & the service super friendly. The food was good (not bad but also not exceptional) & priced really well. The only downside here is that the restaurant is pretty small so seating is limited. Would definitely visit again!
Quite authentic to restaurants you'd find in Japan! I definitely recommend trying the popcorn chicken. It has a unique sweet flavor & it's so addictive. Their specialty drinks are also very nice & worth trying! Prices are very reasonable as well.
Best japanese restaurant I've been so far. Great, friendly service, amazing food & cozy atmosphere. I'll definitely recommend the Miso Cucumber, it was truly amazing. The Tonkatsu & Citrus Chicken are also very very delicious. Great Place!!

We found a hidden restaurant close to Concordia library. We ordered Yaki Don & Fried chicken which were both fresh & tasty. The food was served hot & fresh. Recommend this local place!
A very nice rice bowl / beef bowl shop. Quick & easy. The drinks were delicious & unique. The food was delicious & there were plenty of options, both classic & innovative.
Great place! I would definitely recommend the curry torikatsu & yam fries. Very tasty, good portions, & felt fresh. Loved that the menu included photos. Nice atmosphere & the service was great. Would come again !!
