I have traveled to Portugal, & omg, this restaurant has definitely the best Portuguese food you will find in Montréal! Fresh, delicious, & authentic, you will not be disappointed. First, they serve bread & olives on the table at your arrival, then the menu is rich in authentic plates of chicken & fresh seafood, & don't forget to order a pasteis de nata for dessert with their rich coffee. The staff is extremely professional, welcoming, & helpful. The restaurant itself feels very intimate, & there is a vintage thing about the decor & layouts that remind you of an old family owned European restaurant. All in all, amazing food, great people, nice place, I highly recommend !
I go to Doval on a regular basis & believe me it has to be on your list. Their chicken is a must-try (best in town), calamari is also excellent. Friendly owner with typical Portuguese servic.
Always impresses me when a restaurant has stood the test of time. This establishment has been here for what I understand to be close to 50 years. My first visit was almost 40 years ago! This 3rd ownership group continues the fine tradition, & has been doing so for well over 20 years. The grilled spicy chicken is sublime, served with house fries & tangy mixed salad. We started it all off with grilled calamari & octopus. Compliment it with some white wine, espresso with natas, & you can't go wrong. Desfrute de sua refeiçao!
Excellent food, service & staff. Charcoal grilled fish, chicken & steaks, friendly boisterous staff.
Have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years & still love it. Serving delicious Portuguese grilled chicken, lamb, fish & steak cooked in a large brick oven that you can see if you sit on the rustic & boisterous side (good for groups). If you want an experience with softer lighting & white table clothes, there is a quieter side fit for a romantic dinner for two or family/friends who want to enjoy a quieter conversation. Prices are still very reasonable, for our inflationary times. For that alone, it merits 5 stars!
Sardines & octopus are absolutely amazing! The chicken is also very good! Personally, this is the best Portuguese restaurant in town. The waiter Avelino consistently goes above & beyond to provide top-notch service, & the two very friendly owners make you feel like you're part of the family. The cozy ambiance & authentic Portuguese decor transport you right to Portugal. The extensive wine selection perfectly complements the delicious dishes. Keep up the excellent work, guys. You've created a true culinary gem!
Chicken is tender yet charcoaled. Staff is adorable. Always good house wine. The vibe is lit what else do you want to go to Portugal? Fine go but I’ll go the Chez Doval instead xoxoox
I use to eat at this place quite often 20 years ago, the food was always good but the service wasn't great.
I decided to go back this weekend & was really disapointed.
I ordered the portuguese chicken on the grill & it was awful, it was really dry.
Normally when you order chicken you have to wait approximately 45 minutes as it takes a little while to cook it.
This time we had the chicken within 15 minutes, this means that the chicken was precooked & they slap it bakc on the grill to warm it up.
Very disappointed will not be going back there.
