I went during the lunch hours but I asked for the a la carte menu because I like to see everything that is offered.
Anyways, I ordered the chicken tikka, the shredded okra, & their homemade samosas for starters accompanied with a mango yogurt drink. The chicken tikka for an appetizer was very pleasing. Tender & juicy & very flavourful - with the yogurt dip it was perfect! The samosas were also really good, though nothing too too special about them. The shredded okra dish was the server's recommendation (I think he was the manager or something from the way he acted - professional & polite). It was great. The okra isn't for everyone but vegetarians will sure like it. It has a mixture of tangy & spicy flavour with some onions & tomatoes mixed in.
For the main course I asked for the spiciest dish & he recommended the kudai (spelling?) chicken. I also ordered a super spicy chicken biryani. I was extremely pleased with the flavour in both dishes. Boy they were extremely spicy ... Like burning hot panting type spicy. Loved it!
I give this restaurant a 10/10.
I will be back to try their butter chicken & a spicy lamb dish.
Having lived in India for 4 years, I'm always iffy about eating Indian in Montreal. Devi was recommended by a friend, & the food was excellent. We shared the Manchurian Cauliflower as an appetizer, which was DELICIOUS (I will eat that again & again) & I had the Paneer Bhurji (excellent, though I asked for it spicy & they put so much chilli that it overwhelmed the rest of the taste), & for dessert we shared the Pistachio Cheesecake. Good, but a little too thick for my taste.
My overall bill (1/2 appetizer, main meal, 2 servings of naan, dessert) came to $40 with a generous tip included (our waitress was wonderful, we were never without water). Also, I was so stuffed I took home 3/4 of my Paneer Bhurji (I had ordered the 2nd naan for that) & 3/4 of the cheesecake. Dinner for tonight!
Omg the food is absolutely amazing! The things on the menu are very original, i have been to many indian restaurants & this is by far the best & most unique menu I have seen. For an appetizer i would suggest the Manchurian (as a veggie dish) & the Malai Kabab (non-veg).
I very highly recommend this Restaurant for any Special Occasion. On Aug. 7th 2008, we were placed in the 3rd. floor to celebrate my son & his bride-to-be's Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. Although it was originally to be a Buffet, the servers changed it to be served at our tables. Due to some of us being Vegans, the menu consisted of all Vegan items along with Butter Chicken & the Dessert being the only exceptions. The servers checked with my wife & I as to when we wished to be served. Our son had arranged for Appetizers, Main Course & Dessert. The Delicious meal consisted of MORE ITEMS than was expected. The food was served Piping Hot where appropriate & came Freshly prepared from the Kitchen with an explanation for each dish. This format allowed our guests to converse & mix in with others. We feel the Chef & the Staff did a WONDERFUL JOB & the cost was Very Very GOOD!
It has been a long time since I had some Indian food. I was not disappointed & enjoyed my outing. Food at Devi is great :) I loved my butter chicken with basmati rice & garlic naan bread; pakoras were delicious as well. To end my dinner, I took a pistachio cheesecake; heaven in my mouth. My waiter was great & always made sure I was ok. The restaurant is nicely decorated & you can hear some Hindu music.
If you are really hungry, make sure you order an appetizer because it takes quite a while to receive your main course.
