A stand-up coffee place.
Caffettiera (moka coffee pot in italian) is a 90’s inspired Italian bar located in Montreal’s Golden Square Mile. For Italians, the “bar” is where one goes to take a break from the day.
Our espresso is roasted in Italy and brewed from shiny Vittorio Arduini Lever machines as well as classic Bialettis.
Bar Caffettiera is widely praised as an authentic Italian coffee spot in downtown Montreal, with espresso and cappuccino repeatedly described as outstanding and pastries like the pistachio croissant and nocciola coffee singled out as standouts. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, blending Italian vibes with a casual, no frills service that many reviewers say handles rushes well. The space is small and can get very crowded, and the outdoor terrace in summer is nice but seating indoors can feel cramped; music can be loud. Menu highlights include panini and mortadella pistacchio sandwiches, bombolone, granita latte, and a variety of Italian snacks, with many raving about the granita and the croissants. Several reviews note that the experience is best for coffee and socializing rather than working, and a few mention occasional inconsistencies in pastries or service. Overall Bar Caffettiera stands out as one of the top coffee spots in the city for authentic Italian flavor, vibrant vibe, and friendly staff, albeit with crowding and noise to consider.
It's a precarious three-prong balancing act:
- Food & beverages are fine, but not out-of-this-world. Fourth-quintile coffee.
- Which makes the pedantic nonsense plastered all over the place insufferable. The'Comic Book Guy' energy is strong.
- But it's lively, different, & I just love Italians,
so it flies.
Edit: I took a star off because the coffee really is not good, & the sandwiches are not good enough.
Great unpretentious coffee! Staff is amazing & welcoming. Italian style, no laptops, no wifi, just the pure joy of enjoying a nice conversation with a delicious coffee.
I've only ever had the cafe nocciola, so my review is limited to that, but I can confirm it's one of the tastiest coffees I've ever had in Montreal! You can tell the coffee beans & hazelnut paste are incredibly high quality! It's not cheap, but a really good treat if you appreciate coffee!
The ambiance is also beautiful, although the indoors felt very crowded when I went. I sat outside & had a great time! The staff was super friendly :)

If you're someone who enjoys real coffee & loves being around great people & great vibes, THIS IS IT!!! I come here very regularly & I'm always blown away at how well the staff handles a rush. Always spark a great conversation with someone & I'm never left disappointed. This is is place to be!
Nice & cozy. Coffee is great. I ordered macchiato & loved it. The cafe is so nice & decorated. There is also a patio but it was packed. Great place to visit
Confusing ordering counter, having the register right at the entrance does not work well with making lines. the food is photographed better on the reviews than in reality. Meh crowded.

We came to Montreal for the weekend, this was the best coffee we had all weekend & we went to a lot of coffee places. It's definitely worth a trip! The Nutella Bombolone was amazing!
I asked for a nice strong drink that they can recommend they recommended the Piccolo will be ordering again!
Also looking forward to trying the espresso martini & sandwiches!
Nice retro atmosphere with traditional italian coffee

Si vous cherchez un petit déjeuner avec de succulentes viennoiseries & de délicieuses recettes de café à l'italienne, n'hésitez pas,… ce lieu est fait pour vous. Je recommande !
this cafe has an excellent atmosphere for socializing or reading over a cup of coffee. they do not serve'american style' coffee with multiple sizes or syrups; instead they serve traditional Italian style cappuccini & lattes as well as cocktails & some food. we had an iced Italian coffee, a vermouth spritz (don't miss it - the vermouth spritz was one of the best I've ever had), a pistachio doughnut, & a vegetarian panini. they have a nice variety of sandwiches & pastries, including some vegetarian options.
