Consigliato

My friend & I stopped in for lunch. We placed our order...then my food came out & the server informed us that the kitchen ran out of my friends order. To compensate the delay & mix up, they offered my friend anything from the menu & a drink completely on the house!!! They went way beyond our expectations ...food & service 10 stars!
The server Samantha was such a beautiful bubbly human being. She accommodated & checked in on us...she really enjoys her interaction with her clients!!! Samantha was a wonderful waitress but more important she added such a personal touch with all clients. Thank you! This is a must visit!

0/5 Stars: Bland Food, Poor Service, & an Uncomfortable Tipping Confrontation

Came with friends, including one visiting from Egypt. There were 4 of us. We ordered the lobster pizza, salmon tartare, lobster poutine, calamari, & four mocktails - all bland. Service was below par, & we were seated in direct sun, making the meal uncomfortable. The only positive was the location.

The bigger issue came with the bill: $200 total (about $50 per person), which felt steep given the quantity & quality of what we received. Since the food & service didn't warrant it, I didn't tip. Instead of letting it go, the server asked me directly why I hadn't tipped. I gave a vague answer to avoid embarrassing her in front of the table, especially in front of my friend visiting from Egypt. She then said she relies on tips due to minimum wage, & proceeded to explain what tipping is as if we didn't already understand basic Canadian tipping norms. I apologized just to end the conversation.

My friend from Egypt, who also didn't tip, was asked the exact same question by the same server. Another friend at our table stepped in & pointed out that tipping isn't mandatory, we weren't a large party subject to automatic gratuity, & if it were required it should be built into the bill. There was no need to interrogate customers.

After the meal, I checked other reviews & found several describing the same behavior with different servers, suggesting this is a pattern at the restaurant, not a one-off.

All other things aside, being cornered & lectured about tipping (twice, at the same table) is something I've never experienced anywhere else in Canada. Management needs to address either wages or how staff are trained to handle this situation.

Definitely will not be returning.
