Can't believe I had never been before... my husband brought me here for Valentine's Day... & what a great meal it was! We ordered: shrimp tempura, beef satay, cap steak, roast beef, grilled mushrooms, fries, & baked potato. My water glass was never empty, the service was excellent overall. While I didn't like the peanut sauce with the satay, the meat was super tender & flavourful on its own, & we were happy the sauce was on the side. The mushrooms were insanely delicious as was my cap steak, the roast beef was good, just nowhere near as good as my steak... looking forward to our next visit!View more

It was a bitterly cold Feb 24 when we four lady friends who just attended mass at the nearby St Patrick's cathedral were both freezing & famished on the walk back to our hotel. We all agreed to have dinner at the first restaurant we'd come upon, any restaurant. Then there was Vargas just after a few blocks. If that wasn't an answered prayer, I don't know what is. Anyway, we went in, & had a totally unforgettable dining experience, courtesy of our server. His warm & engaging personality more than made up for the frosty & condescending welcome from the receptionist. The ultimate salesman that he was, we went for his suggestions on a porterhouse entree, with all the best accoutrements & potables, then finally capped with coffee & a shared cheesecake. Altogether, it was a most wonderful evening for these women on a weekend getaway to Montreal. Sebastian, you're the best!!! The food was disgusting.ordered a VIP platter to share with friends & for 64$.. it was nooot worth it at all. I could have gotten the party pack at M&Ms for 20$... the drink was good tho. This place used to be so good! The waiters seem annoyed as hell like it hurts to smile. Blah. Never again.View more
We are at this restaurant yesterday & had an amazing time. The food was amazing. The waiter Sebastian was very good in making our stay comfortable. Even though he is not really sincere in looking after us, but he made our stay worth it. You can tell that he is trying his best to make us comfortable but I know he is only doing his job. But the sincerity is not really there. Pushing us to buy expensive food not letting us decide want we wanted. I think he is thinking we have no money to spend, but we proved him wrong. The Manager trying hard to accommodate us & trying to talk to us, maybe sizing us up if we have Mon to pay. Really a very weird feeling. First time here at this restaurant last night. We were hungry & new to the area, we had no choice but to eat here. The welcome that we received was very disappointing but we stood our grounds to stay. The two Ladies at front was so rude & prejudice. Looking at us with disgust because we are Asian & not formally dress because we are on vacation. The way she asked the question if we have reservation is totally rude. If I want to hang up my coat in the coat cart was totally rude. We were thinking of leaving but we stood grounds to show them. The looks that we received are not pleasant. But at the end Sebastian tried really hard to make us comfortable. You can really tell that sincerity of every one was not there. I find this restaurant full of prejudice people. From the Manager , the hostess & waiter. So if you are Asian or miniority looking make sure you dress up going to this restaurant so they don't look at you weird. Now I know why people not liking Montreal. Very disappointed in treating us. The food was pretty good. However, the coffee is so bitter that I can't drink it. Very old & not fresh taste. My friend & I took a sip & stood up. & one of the servers, Old Woman, had a very stiff attitude, which was unpleasant. I think people like that shouldn't work as servers.View more
This place is perfect for business lunches, if you care more about the business part than the lunch part. The food quality has absolutely dropped here, it's tasteless & stale for most of the menu. The place is lovely & well lit though, no blasting music, seats are comfortable, tables aren't the perfect size to have a conversation with someone across from you.View more

Nous avons été chargés en trop. Le restaurant l'a avoué & a refusé de nous rembourser! Nous avons tenu notre party de Noël au Vargas en décembre dernier. Le Vargas n'inclut pas le dessert dans son menu de groupe & cela reste au choix. Donc, on le paie si on le prend seulement. Vu que nous étions un grand groupe (> 50 personnes) nous avions demandé au restaurant s'il désirait avoir une liste des noms avec les choix de repas & l'option dessert ainsi que des "name tags" que les invités peuvent mettre devant eux pour faciliter le service lors du souper. Le restaurant nous a dit que cela n'était pas nécessaire & que leur équipe était habituée à recevoir des grands groupes. Malgré que j'avais précisé, par courriel, à la gérante des réservations que seulement une partie des invités allait prendre le dessert, le dessert a été servi à tout le groupe (55 personnes au lieu de 38) sans que les serveurs demandent à savoir qui le voulait & qui ne le voulait pas. Rendu à la facture, les desserts en trop nous ont été facturés & malgré les explications que j'ai données au serveur, soit que le dessert était au choix & que ce n'était pas tout le groupe qui en voulait, il n'a pas voulu retirer les desserts en trop de la facture sous prétexte qu'il était difficile de questionner tout le monde à savoir quels invités voulaient le dessert. Pourtant, les serveurs étaient passés en début de soirée pour questionner les invités quant à leurs choix de repas & auraient pu les questionner quant à l'option de dessert en même temps... Lorsque j'ai soulevé à la gérante des réservations que nous avons été facturés en trop, elle l'a avoué "Après verification de votre facture, nous remarquons que vous avez bel & bien été chargée des desserts en trop." mais elle a prétendu que nous avons payé moins de 15% de pourboire & que le restaurant allait garder le montant facturé en trop pour cette raison! Il est à noter que nous avions laissé 15% après taxes sur les frais de repas mais que nous avions exclus le frais de location de salle du pourboire, ce qui est tout à fait normal. Donc, en gros, restaurant qui refuse notre proposition de liste de noms pour faciliter le service & assurer sa fluidité, fait des erreurs en servant des desserts non sollicités & les facture & nous obligent à les payer!View more
Food - their Lamb shanks, BBQ ribs, salmon plate are great. Tried their sushi for the first time, not bad at all. Onion soup is delicious with the old gruyere cheese. Cesar salad never disappoints. Their portion size varies from one dish to another. Service- nothing to complain about. Always good. Atmosphere- if you want a quiter ambience, do not sit near the bar. Otherwise, the ambience is great.View more
