Jackson was a fantastic bar tender, super cool vibes. Best cocktail bar I've ever been, introduced me to all sorts of flavors & styles, big fan
Highly recommended. If you go Mon-Thu, it will be less busy. Drinks from menu are great! The bar tenders are highly attentive to detail & service. The only reason for they are not getting 5 starts from me (someone extremely picky when it comes to the hospitality industry), I ordered a gin & tonic after ordering some of their amazing drinks from the menu, & the g&t wasn't what I had hopped for.
FYI, best g&t I have ever had are served in the Basque Country.
Really cool speakeasy craft cocktail bar with very skilled bartenders. It can be a little hard to find, but all you do is ring a doorbell & wait for staff to come & add you to a waitlist. In the meantime there is a pre-bar to the main bar next to the entrance.
I got the Smoking Gun, Joe Peachi, & then an Espresso Martini. & my sister & I both got their long sleeve T-shirts. They're all balanced & decorated well. The menu also has descriptions for each drink. & they have some non-alcoholic mocktails too!
It's got a very cozy vibe despite the juxtaposition of a boiler room/cellar aesthetic, & the bathrooms are pretty cool!
Also, I pulled Narita Brian in Uma Musume during her banner event with one roll, so you know this is a lucky spot! Definitely coming back next time I'm in Montreal & gets a big recommendation for all my Mixology friends.
Quite enjoyed this place. Didn't take long to get in (weekday early evening), loved the service & selection (drinks at the bar). Not too loud, not too bright, not too expensive. Good stuff.
Pretentious is an understatement. Staff is rude & too used to shitting on tourists as a form of being hip. Drinks were average & overpriced. Bar Big In Japan & even a nice restaurant like Mon Lapain which is more wine focused put this place to shame in cocktails for 30% less cost. Solid MEH
First things first, press this doorbell for the bartender to come let you in (see picture). We absolutely loved this hidden gem. Bartenders were super nice & experienced. I asked them to make a gin based drink that was a bit fruity & mildly sweet & they delivered! We did the same thing when we asked for a shot so don't be afraid to ask the bartender to surprise you with an original creation.
One of our favorite speakeasies in Montreal. Secret entrance way (press the bell & wait patiently!), friendly servers, creative cocktail menu, & a very'cool' vibe - the perfect mix for a speakeasy!
Each drink is unique in its taste & presentation…it is always fun to try them all or just name your flavor note & the bartender can come up with a surprise.
Absolutely best combination of bar & speakeasy. I love how it gets crowded & loud. The bar has space for a lot of people. To find the door, the best experience for us was to take place jacques cartier & then go on st amable. The street is beautiful & we had fun exploring & looking around. The drinks are so smart with the duck characters & they are delicious! The drinks are reasonably priced considering average prices of cocktails. & I loved their olive plate. Overall, such a good find. Did not think I would ever like a bar in the old port so much.
Atmosphere: 7.5/10
Tucked away in Old Montreal, The Coldroom is a true speakeasy with an unmarked entrance & cellar-like vibe. The space feels like a wine cave meets cocktail den - casual & dim, with a long bar counter & multiple group seating areas. Music was slightly too loud, but still manageable for short conversations.
Drinks: 6/10
Recommendation: Sallerac
The menu is themed around a fictional 1970s Montreal rubber duck squat - playful, creative, & packed with personality. Each drink includes its flavor profile, ingredients, & glassware shape, making it easy to navigate. While the menu concept stands out, the drinks themselves fall a bit flat. Presentation is minimal, with no garnish, & the bar uses below-average glassware & no coasters.
Service: 8.5/10
Water was served on arrival. The team was friendly & attentive throughout. Prices are average for Montreal, with a balance between standard cocktails & more premium, exotic options that are fairly priced.
lively bar with the most incredible drinks. every drink has layers & is fun to experience. i would like to come again one day.
Keep your eyes open for the duck above the door outside, ring the door bell & you're suddenly transported to a prohibition era speakeasy. The cocktail list & whiskey selection are intricate & well crafted. Whether at the bar counter or at a table, the service is always fantastic & we always have a good time with the staff.
There is usually a wait list especially on weekends but that's to be expected. It also gets pretty warm down in the basement during the summer which could be uncomfortable for some.
Make sure to try the severely underated grilled cheese with bourbon butter!
Overall this is my favourite bar to recommend to friends & tourists. It's one of the best bars in Montreal, you won't be disappointed!
The friendliest trendy speakeasy I've ever been to. Told the bartender my spirit of choice & the flavor I felt like & he worked his magic. Will return.
