Étant un des premiers restaurants de son genre du quartier à Montréal, il fut reconnu pour son expérience gastronomique familiale et a eu le privilège d’avoir une clientèle loyale à lui-même depuis son inauguration. Cette fière « institution », comme ses clients réguliers aiment bien l’appeler, est fameux pour ses Egg Rolls et ont étés reconnus comme étant les « meilleurs de la ville ». En outre de ses délices dorés, la Soupe Wonton, les Côtes Levées Yangtze, le Poulet aux Ananas et les Crevettes à la Sauce d’Homard sont aussi des favoris auprès des Montréalais et des anciens résidents de la ville qui revienne pour revivre l’expérience exceptionnelle lorsqu’ils sont de passage. RESTAURANT TCHANG KIANG a été fondé il y a plus de 35 ans. Cet établissement était apprécié par de nombreux clients loyaux et est reconnu en étant un restaurant chinois exceptionnel dans l’arrondissement de NDG. Il est particulièrement fameux pour ses délicieux Kou Tien (raviolis chinois). En compagnie de ses plusieurs autres plats de spécialités Sichuan et Pékinoise, ce restaurant garanti de plaire à tous les goûts.
Les avis sur Tchang Kiang By Yangtze soulignent un service attentif et une nourriture globalement satisfaisante, avec des plats comme le poulet a l'ananas et le canard souvent cités en bien, et des succès aussi pour le porc aigre doux ou le poulet chow mein, tout en signalant que les portions restent parfois plus petites qu'avant et que certains plats manquent de poulet ou de saveur. Le cadre est décrit comme propre et le service courtois, et ce restaurant est percu comme une adresse de quartier fiable pour les dîners en famille et les commandes a emporter, meme si quelques avis evoquent une baisse de qualite et une experience inegale selon les plats et les visites.
Un mot résumant notre soirée : Wow ! La nourriture est d'une qualité exceptionnelle, les dumplings ont été un véritable coup de coeur ! Nous y étions pour une soirée en amoureux, & nous en sommes repartis très satisfaits 7 assiettes partagées plus tard ! Quelle expérience incroyable ! Il faut vraiment goûter les kou tien, les egg rolls croustillants à souhait, le poulet général tao généreux en poulet, le boeuf au brocoli & les crêpes Moo Shoo au canard ! Belle ambiance relax avec la musique idéale pour un bon moment !
I had long heard about the supposed resurrection of the iconic Yangtze restaurant, I greatly looked forward to a takeout meal here.
To be clear, this was a takeout. I found the restaurant clean & quiet. The takeout order went without a hitch.
Some have said the the portions were tiny for the price, I could not agree more. At $34 plus tax for a takeout for two ( the website said $32 ), I found it very expensive.
They give you 3 egg rolls per person, presumably because the takeout does not include the won-ton soup. I found the egg rolls to be the best part of the meal, the skins were flawlessly fried to a golden brown, & the filling was tasty & had good texture. My wife thought the egg rolls lacked on the pork inside the filling, but I thought overall the taste made up for this.
The chow mein was ordinary, & a bit too watery. The rice was ok, but way too small. The pineapple chicken was a nice red color & decent, but I counted about 8 small pieces of breaded chicken, WAY too small for a supposed meal for two. The dry garlic ribs were closer to a portion of 2, but they were ordinary. The rib pieces were small & a bit fattier than I would like, & the dry garlic sauce was too watery.
In short, the quality was ordinary & at close to $40 with tax & tip, the portions were hugely disappointing. At $40 for takeout for 2, Montrealers have many more better options fortunately.
I will try their sit-down menu one more time, but I do not recommend the takeout for quality/value.

I brought my bird to the vet nextdoor & my friend & I got hungry, so we decided to go for something close by; Yangtze. I ordered their eggrolls & salt & pepper calamari as appetizers; they are definitely the best eggrolls in town! As for the calamaris, they came with onions & peppers as bedding & the portion was beyond generous; so much that we had to put it aside to make room for the cantonese chao mein; everything was so fresh & tasty- vegetables were crunchy & cooked to perfection. I will definitely go back!
Eggrolls #1 in Montreal. General Tao has more meat than batter; something you rarely get in montreal asian cuisine. Lychee Curry duck was a very creative dish; you get the subtle spiciness from the curry & a fruity kick from the lychee.
Probably the best egg rolls & sweet & sour soup all around. The General Tao chicken was a bit bland, but was a generous portion & the chicken was truly succulent. My companion's shrimp with lobster sauce was more like a huge soup; the shrimp were excellent & the portion generous. Service was excellent! We will most definitely return.
Still serves American-style Cantonese & imitation Schezwan. The food is overcooked & flavourless. Even the eggrolls were hard. I came in with high hopes for this restaurant because of the decor & the new name, but it is still the same old Yangtze. The restaurant seems to cater to a certain clientele. I did not see any young people when we were there.
J'y suis allé avec ma blonde le 30 août 2013, c'était délicieux.
Certains de mes plats était excellents, j'ai pris le numéro 5 pour deux personnes. Je vous conseille de changer le poulet à l'ananas pour des crevettes frites, qui ont l'air vraiment délicieuses.
Ce restaurant mérite absolument de l'essayer. La prochaine fois, je saurai quoi changer. Surtout si vous habiter dans le coin, vous avez de la chance.
Voici mon analyse :
Soupe won ton 9/10 (l'arôme est vraiment très bonne) Egg roll 8/10 (Texture parfaite mais un peu gras, j'ai bien aimé)
Côtes à l'ail 9/10 (Délicieuses)
Légumes avec poulets en cube 10/10 (Perfection)
Poulet à l'ananas 6/10 (Trop de pâtes & trop stiff)
Riz frit 5/10 (Sec, pas très bon)
Chow mein au poulet 9/10 (Vraiment délicieux, belle consistance)
Ailes de poulet 7/10 (Pour les apprécier, badigeoner avec la cuillère, le liquide de l'assiette & manger avec du liquide)
Bon service, même si la propriétaire ne parle pas beaucoup le français. La serveuse était très courtoise.
We found the food extremely fresh. The chop suey Won-Ton soup was very tasty. My daughter loved the Chicken Soo Guy crispy & tasty.
The Egg Rolls were crispy & filled with lots of vegetables. served with an excellent plum sauce..We are going back to sample the lobster.. . We would strongly recommend the restaurant to our friends.... Donnie W.
The name Yangtze has been an institution in Montreal for many years. I remember from a very young age going to eat there when they were located on Van Horne Avenue. Besides the prices not much has changed as far as Quality food & great service. The Egg rolls & won ton soup are still the best in the city. The only food change is the pineapple chicken. They use breaded chicken balls now instead of odd shaped pieces of chicken that's breaded. I think I prefer the old way.
The food was served hot & fresh & very prompt. I truly recommend Yangtze to anyone that loves traditional Chinese food.
Our server was courteous & friendly.They play very relaxing backgroud music at a low volume. The food was very good as usual.They make the best egg rolls & chicken chow mein.Prices are reasonable too. I would recomend it to anybody who likes chineese food.

We went to Yangtze on Sherbrooke & were very pleasantly surprised. With memories of the old Yangtze on Van Horne (with,as everyone knows, the best egg rolls in the city), we were unprepared for the lovely, comfortably elegant, youthful, jazzy vibe of the new & improved Yantze. Food was delicious. You can order the old west-end favourites like the egg rolls - still worth it - & pineapple chicken, or delightful szechuan specialities. Ambiance & service were great. A really good neighbourhood restaurant!
