Since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel has been a central part of the culture and daily life of Montreal. Its legendary landmark bagel shop operates 24/7 and sells over 1,000 dozen bagels a day.
Reviews describe St-Viateur Bagel as an iconic Montreal staple baked in a wood-fired oven, delivering warm, crisp-on-the-outside and chewy-on-the-inside bagels with rich flavor. The selection spans sesame, poppy, everything, and other classics, with many noting the pleasure of watching bagels bake right in front of customers. The experience is typically grab-and-go, with limited or no seating and cash-only payments at some locations, and lines that can be long but move quickly. Overall, the bagels are praised for freshness and quality, making St-Viateur Bagel a must-visit for both locals and visitors, often regarded as among the best in Montreal despite occasional notes of variability.
I converted so hard to the Montreal bagel. I am rationing my remaining bagels & considering being unfaithful to my local NY Style bagel shop & getting these shipped.

First stop we go when we arrive to Montreal. Staffs are very friendly, was lucky to try the avocado bagels. They also sell merchandise & we got the magnet. Price are very reasonable too.
This chain maybe a later comer than The Fairmount but I personally like this location for few reasons. Bigger space, much more engaging & friendly staff that made you feel welcome. The sesame bagel same price @1.25CAD is really hot & fresh compared to lukewarm one at Fairmount, better crunch & aroma. So that's my 2 cents worth.
Les meilleurs bagels en ville tout simplement. Ceux au sésame valent le détour si vous visitez Montréal & surtout, essayez la version garnie de saumon fumé & fromage à la crème avec un café sur place! De bons articles en boutique aussi!
Admittedly, there's a large following & many great reviews. For me, it's preference & for my taste it didn't align. I did like the size & tried several, all dressed, sesame & poppyseed. Again, for my taste seemed like the dough wasn't salted. The place was clean. Wait staff friendly & helpful. A bit busy with a small line out the door & almost every seat taken including the outside.
