The concept is a welcome addition to Montreal, but the execution can be somewhat uneven. The food is generally decent, though not remarkable, & some menu choices-such as adding avocado salad to an unagi temaki-don't quite complement the unagi itself.
Service has also varied across my visits. I've had very pleasant interactions with some servers, while others have been less attentive. At times, it can feel as though guests who aren't familiar with the owners receive a less welcoming experience, & I've occasionally been asked to wait in a way that felt a bit dry & unpolished. My last few visits ended up being somewhat underwhelming in both food & service overall.
The ambiance is also beginning to lean toward a more polished, trendy crowd, which slightly shifts the original feel of the place
Really good vibe, beautiful space & fun atmosphere. It's a new spot so give them some grace but this place will do really well. Very fair prices for cocktails & food considering the quality. Service was a little slow for drinks but picked up once we were seated. Will definitely be back

Heard great things about this spot by friends & wow it didn't disappoint! The salmon was incredible! Fresh food, great signature cocktails but above all our waitress Cathy was delightful!! Her recommendations were spot on & her infectious smile made us feel so welcomed!! thank you Cathy & Motto !!
Motto Hand Roll is that spot. The whole experience hits every sense - the high-end diffuser scent when you walk in, the stunning bar-style setup, the textures & flavours that are honestly next level, & décor that feels sleek & sexy. The hospitality ties it all together in such an effortless way.

Such an incredible dining experience! Motto truly lives up to the hype. The space is beautiful, with an atmosphere that feels both comfortable & effortlessly elegant. Every member of the staff is attentive & genuinely welcoming.
The chefs are extraordinary, each dish shows an impressive level of care & craftsmanship. The tuna is exceptional, & everything tastes incredibly fresh.
The cocktails are also phenomenal & pair perfectly with the menu.
I highly recommend Motto for a date night or any occasion when you want a truly memorable evening. An easy 10/10!
It's like discovering a hidden gem! This intimate sushi bar is cozy & the food is exquisite & the staff are lovely. We went on a Sunday night to have a better chance of being seated right away, although there are velvet covered benches along the window where you can be served a cocktail while you wait. I recommend sharing a few crudos plates & maybe an Asian salad. The handrolls are so yummy & crispy on the outside. I had 4 of them! It is not the place to hang out all evening as seating is 1 to 1.5 hours, just like such places in Japan. Oh, & the sake cups are really cool.

I walked by here a few times & made a mental note a few times, but never went in. By coincidence, I decided to make a visit today & wished I went in the first time.
Pleasant entrance greeted by the staff to ease you into the experience de maison. A quick intro into the surface of what's to come, Motto specialized in Japanese handroll with an unique Montreal twist that's surely to be remembered.
Try the uminosachi that Québec & the northern hemisphere provides. Watch for the apparence of the tender sweetness that is brought forth by the mild shari that only exists from fish that thrives in older climate. There was one that I especially was wowed by, try guessing which one that was.
Establishment provides a great & correct entry into very accessible Japanese experience.
My friends & I had an excellent experience. The hand rolls were delicious, & the service was even better. We all left with full bellies & smiles on our faces. Could not recommend Motto Handroll Bar enough!

Honestly had a wonderful lunch at Motto. Our server Will was truely amazing & present during our service. The salmon is beyond this world ! So fresh & tasty. 10/10 would recommand for either lunch or dinner !
Ambiance is cozy & service was good during lunch, but a hand roll bar should ultimately have excellent hand rolls.
The hand rolls (tried 6) were very underwhelming.
Rice temperature is off. Should not be as cool as fish.
Seaweed was too crunchy & hard to chew. It should be replaced.
Serving fake crab as a mix in a crab hand roll was disappointing.
AMAZING PLACE, SERVICE, VIBE could not recommend this place any further. Thank you to Will for the amazing service. The bday party we planned was A1. We need more place like this in Montreal
We had an amazing experience at Motto! Maria was so great & helped us choose which rolls to get. Everything we tried was extremely flavourful, fresh & delicious. Best Salmon Tataki i've ever had, by far! Our favourite roll was the baked crab. The cocktails were great & the price was extremely reasonable :)
