L’estaminet is the perfect place to enjoy a light gourmet meal without putting a dent in your wallet. Located on Fleury Street in the increasingly popular Ahuntsic district, this unpretentious bistro continues to earn the praise of all those who dine here. Established in 1985, L’estaminet offers a pan-European menu that includes a selection of favourites inspired by French, Italian, German and Belgian cuisine.
An eclectic clientele demands an equally eclectic menu. With patrons from the neighbourhood and from all over the island of Montreal, L’estaminet provides top quality bistro fare that includes a selection of burgers, tempting personal pizzas, the ever-popular croques (including monsieur, smoked salmon, ham and asparagus), sandwiches, salad, pasta and an ever changing table d’hôte that expands on the standard menu. Breakfast is served daily and the extensive weekend brunch menu has such a variety of choices that making your final selection may take some time.
Like any bistro worthy of the name, L’estaminet offers a selection of coffees and espresso-based drinks (hot and iced). A wide array of herbal and other teas is available for your pleasure, too. Wine and beer are also on the menu, with St-Ambroise, Boréale and Stella Artois on tap. And if indulging your sweet tooth is more your thing (or if you want to cap a perfect meal), the dessert menu at L’estaminet features sinfully delicious pies, sorbets and cakes, including a different new featured cake every month.

L'Estaminet feels like a warm, unpretentious neighborhood bistro with a cozy atmosphere and simple, hearty dishes served by friendly staff; Guests note a relaxed setting, good value, and dependable quality across dishes such as tender lamb, fresh tartare and comforting staples, with tasteful lighting and a welcoming vibe that makes it a good spot for meets or casual dinners, while a few reviews mention small portions or bread or seasoning could shine a bit more, these are balanced by the overall charm and consistency.
Went for dinner on a late Saturday afternoon (~3pm) & I was mostly alone till about 5pm. I would suggest making a reservation beforehand. I had the pumpkin & red pepper soup (delicious), maple smoked salmon bonbons (meh, a tad salty), maple tart (toooo sweet for me) the Trou Normand - a very small sorbet scoop in a splash of vodka served in a shot glass & the highlight of my meal - the Moroccan braised lamb shank. The fall-off bone meat & root vegetables were tender, the accompanying sauce delicious, the dish very filling & just a joy to eat. I highly recommend it!
Fun & inexpensive french bisto-café serving local & accessible fare. Went there for Mtl-à-Table & loved exploring their table-d'hôte options. It was a busy night but service was decent. The food was fresh & somewhat interesting; not too refined, but not just easy plates slapped together haphazardly; they have character! Their drinks were not too tasty tho, otherwise an enjoyable night.
Went for the MtlàTable event presented by Amex... & restaurant does not accept Amex!
No English menus available.
Below par service. No smile or chat from wait staff, water glasses filled over our heads with their armpits in our faces, same utensils for all services...
As for food, menu was very interesting but execution was lacking.
We like discovering new restaurants thru the Mtl à Table Festival but this will not be a keeper for us.
