Le Surcouf is a welcoming French restaurant established in a Victorian home for over 45 years now. Dominique and the chef Serge will be pleased to help you discover the fine French classic cuisine. In the fall the restaurant offers a special game menu in addition to their regular table d'hôte that you create yourself.
Le Surcouf consistently earns praise for excellent French cuisine, impeccable service, and a warm, elegant atmosphere in a charming old house with multiple intimate rooms. The wine list is excellent and dietary needs are well accommodated with gluten free options, making it a reliable choice for special occasions and relaxed dinners alike. While some guests note that prices can be on the higher side and that service can be slower on busy nights, the overall experience remains memorable and consistently high quality.
We have visited Surcouf a few times this summer & each experience has been awesome. The selection of private importation wines is a delightful change from the restaurants. The food is beautifully presented & delicious. the wait staff are clearly a notch above most establishments - attentive, helpful & pleasant. Surcouf is the type of restaurant that you really want when you "go out" - a completely amazing dinner experience in a stunning environment. Thank you Dominique & staff!!
The Bistro Menu is always delicious. Have had it several times. The $30 bottle of wine that is on the Bistro Menu was the perfect pairing. Excellent value, excellent staff. We will be back soon.

We celebrated our 51 st wedding anniversary here. The service, food & wine were excellent. The only comment I would make, as it relates to mobility, the stairs are a bit difficult. Also, now that we have been there ,for the summer, it would be nice to have a table in the front room area. The elements for COVID are well considered, no problems. Overall, the evening was a success
It has been way too long since we visited Surcouf. Our dinner was absolutely amazing. The steak tartare was delicious & the filet mignon was cooked exactly as requested - tender & so tasty. The service was attentive & perfectly timed & nothing was missing or overlooked. The extensive private importation wine selection made choosing difficult. We will be back soon!
Le Surcouf has been a family favourite for over 35 years. Friendly ambiance with delicious food & wine. Most meals are gluten free or can be altered to become GF.
We (party of 5) had a wonderful dinner last night at the Surcouf. The food was excellent, the wine had the right temperature & the service by Stephan was very friendly & professional. The menu had a lot of really nice & varied choices & the Bistro menu is a nice & more economical addition to the full menu, especially also for seniors who don't eat so much anymore.
The kitchen produces very good classic French style food, with some local inspiration, at a fair price. The wine list is solid, with interesting choices at various price levels, with many private imports - not the "usual suspects". The service is attentive & professional. I have eaten at Le Surcouf many times over the past 20 years, & have never been disappointed.

Everything about this restaurant is superb. The host did a wonderful job of multitasking, he was our host & server. It is great to go out to eat & have fresh & beautifully food presented to you. My husband had the lobster bisque & liver & I had a a salad & scallops, along with great veggies & wine. All was excellent & it made our special occasion one to remember. We look forward to our next visit. This restaurant is fully bilingual. There is some parking available in the back of the restaurant. Enjoy!
First time. Beautiful restaurant, tastefully decorated. The food was terrific for all guests in our party. A well paced 6 course meal that was not as expensive as I thought it would be. A little expensive but not like Gibbys or 40 Westt where it is just expensive. Nice wine list although a little $$$.
My wife & I arrived without reservations at around 5:30 pm, but were placed immediately by our waiter Martin in the enclosed porch section at the front of the restaurant. Talk about atmosphere! This place oozes with it & the food? Oh la la, this is French cuisine at its finest.
With a great selection of wines & a waiter who really knows how to mix drinks as well as how to treat you right, my wife & I soon realized we were going to have a special evening. I started with French Onion soup. This was prepared as it's meant to be prepared, with a deep dark broth prepared in wine, morsels of freshly cut bread & melted cheese dripping over the edge of the bowl. My mouth was watering before I even tasted the first spoonful. My wife's bisque à l'homard was equally satisfying.
This was followed by generous portions of large & tender scallops in a special creamy sauce served to my wife & giant scampi in garlic sauce ordered by me. Both plates had fresh ingredients, were expertly spiced & superbly cooked.
For dessert the créme brulé was the best I've ever tasted & my wife's mousse au chocolat was absolutely fantastic. Our taste buds are still reliving the extraordinary & memorable experience a week later. Martin put his bartender experience to good use when I ordered a café Bresilien. & he put on quite a spectacle using the movable table with butane gas to first caramelize the sugar perfectly around the outside edge of the glass & to then ignite the Brandy glasses with the haunting bluish flame. What a show & what a taste!
There were many other things to comment favorably upon about Le Surcouf, but too many to mention in this article. But one thing I will add is that the main chef better watch himself as sous-chef Gérard was magnificent. Thank goodness we were seated in the front of the restaurant, however, as the power went out multiple times & plunged many of the other patrons into near darkness while we were graced by the natural light courtesy of large wooden-framed Victorian windows. But this only enhanced the already ancient & mysteriously warm & charming ambience.
In closing this restaurant is clean & wonderfully decorated, unlike most of the restaurants on the other side of the street along the boardwalk & is well worth the extra dollars that such a high class restaurant deserves. My wife & I will definitely be returning soon. Highly recommended for those looking for a total gourmet experience without compromise.
