Starting with the good, food is excellent, salmon tartare, carrot soup, duck, foie gras, Île flottant, chocolaté mousse. Service was excellent. However, even though we were confirmed by phone to have a table by window for two, that was not accommodated. A table for 4 by window stayed empty for the night while we were there. Restaurant space is small & kitchen is part of dining area so you will hear dishes clacking all night untill restaurant closing. In fact there are tables for 2 right next to kitchen dish area. Otherwse excellent french food expérience.
We very much enjoyed our meal at Le P'tit Plateau. Both the duck & the salmon dishes were excellent. Our only criticism would be that the food could have been hotter. The soup & both entrees were tepid. The service was excellent. Even with that said, we enjoyed it enough to return.
Highly recommend, party of 3, we had the escargot, 2 different duck dinners & a beef dinner & all were first rate! Bring your own wine.
It looks unassuming from the outside. Very much a neighborhood establishment. The food was everything we hoped it would be. Even tho our server was exceedingly busy, he still managed to take good care of us, pouring our byob wine, & our food came out in a timely manner. Excellent duck & steak cooked to perfection & very fresh salad.
Cozy atmosphere; tasty duck-focused cuisine. We had a lovely meal. Merci!
A long-time neighborhood gem with great, traditional French food & attentive & responsive service. Have been coming here for many years & always visit when we're in Montreal. The duck is especially good, as is the homemade smoked salmon.
We forgot this was a BYOB restaurant & managed to get a couple of bottles right before our dinner. We had the soup, salad, seafood gratin, snails, pork cassoulet & duck 3 ways. The pork cassoulet & snails were the outstanding dishes. The mushrooms in the leek soup were very fresh. The meat was slowly roasted on the pork bone & snails were in a lovely cream sauce. The creme brûlée was also exceptional, just as good as we had from Paul Bocuse's restaurant in Lyons. Amazing service & food. Can't wait to go back!! Am worried about these wonderful neighbourhood restaurants during Covid.
We loved this cosy, intimate bistro that locals frequent. The food was delicious & something for everyone's palate, we brought our 3 children ages 13-21 & they loved all their dishes. Some of us had the fish which was lovely with a sample of scalloped potatoes & aubergine side, others had the duck magret, rich & delicious. Everything we had from soup, salad, apps, main & dessert were delightful. The service was good & our waiter was attentive & fun. He made the experience even better. We would be happy to return here upon our return to Montreal (we were visiting from Toronto, our daughter who is living in Montreal).
All four of us loved everything about this restaurant. Food was amazing & service very good. We shared all the dishes. Entree appetizers we had were duck rillettes, salmon tartare, foie gras & for dinner plates w soup or salad. Soup was delicious so smooth w pear, celery, coconut milk. Dinner we had: Lamb shank, deer, stuffed duck breast, hanger steak special w foie gras & dessert shared delicious chocolate mousse over praline (could have used a scoop of vanilla ice cream).
We just got back from 7 days / 6 nights in Montreal. What a great city ! We loved it ! The highlight of our dinner meals was at Le P'tit Plateau. Outstanding !!! The quaint little restaurant probably seats 30... It was a cold snowy night & the place was not packed, but Andre took such good care of us. Chef Dan too ! My wife started with the Duck Rillettes, outstanding !!! So fresh & tasty ! I had the smoked salmon platter appetizer, six large pieces of ever so smokey salmon. & we had enough to share with one another. For dinner, we split the cassoulet. A great choice on a frigid night. Choke full of duck, sausage, beans, etc. We had a crisp, fresh salad for our " dessert " after that heavy meal. Andre helped us pick out a nice bottle of red to go with the dinner. This place is a real find. Very warm & friendly. Somewhat off the beaten track, but well worth the effort to find it. We will go back !!! Merci Dan !
We had dinner on Saturday evening with our niece & it was just wonderful! The booking service the previous day was so easy & smooth & we got contacted the day of the reservation from the restaurant to confirm it. Service was great: Sam our waiter was very warm & welcoming & explained us the different dishes very professionally. All the dishes were just wonderful! Comfort food presented in an eye pleasing & mouth watering way :). The stuffed duck breast & the venison are highly recvomended as well as the chocolate dessert. The atmosphere is very cozy; ask for a table at the window as they are the nicest in my opinion. A must go to place! We will be back soon. Thank you.
Both duck confit & grilled duck breast were delicious. Great value too.
Lovely intimate BYO restaurant. Melt in your mouth duck with foie gras & fabulous venison. Presentation is exquisite. Will definitely go back.
Quaint little French Bistro with very creative menu. I ordered the duck magret with foie gras & cooked just right. My dish was dilectible & my friend had the swordfish. She was also satisfied with her dish. The presentation for both dishes was lovely. We also had dessert, the crème brûlée which was very good & the homemade sorbet( three different flavours). The pear flavour was the only one that we did not like. The mango & raspberry flavours were delicious, like eating real fruit. The waiters were both from France very attentive & friendly. The e decor was beatiful. & reminded me of being in France. A plus was that it was a bring your own wine. I would absolutely recommend & definitely go back go back.
Wonderful experience. Very friendly, professional waiter & the food was wonderful. Duck wa pretty rare, but delicious. Do you have more stars??
What a great find, we enjoyed the food & atmosphere immensely. Didn't realize we needed to bring our own wine, Chef was kind enough to provide me with directions to the nearest store. Loved the venison & the duck cassoulet.
Charming, friendly, professional & delicious, do not miss this restaurant. We attended this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary & we had a great meal, professionally prepared & served in a charming setting. It is in an area where there are not a lot of restaurants so we approached with some trepidation which disappeared instantly upon entering. We were greeted warmly & shown to our table. It is a BYOW establishment & our server immediately brought over an ice basket for our white wine & uncorked both bottles. It is an open kitchen so you can see the chef & cooks working their artistry. To start we had cream of carrot & parsnip soup, which was wonderfully seasoned & amazingly smooth that we gobbled up & wiped our bowls with slices of the delicious French bread. We followed that with an appetizer of grilled thin slices of teriyaki duck breast DELICIOUS. We both had as the entree a special of marinated hanger steak served with mushroom & sides of green beans, potato gratin & purée of cauliflower. The flavors, presentation & service were all fantastic. Portions are properly sized, neither too large nor too small. For dessert we had what turns out to be their speciality croustillants Gaston's with Armagnac ice cream & delicious coffee. The dessert was amazing. The price point is very fair for the quality of the experience & professionalism from everyone, it was a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Wonderful food, great atmosphere & service! The fois gras & confit filled duck breast was particularly delicious & the cassoulet was very good, too.
We were in Montreal for a week, eating in a different restaurant every night, & this was by far the best meal we had. The space is small, but very comfortable & pleasant to be in, the service is excellent, & the food was imaginative, well executed, & delicious. On the night we went, there was only one waiter to attend to 10 or so tables; he had no help seating, clearing, or bringing out food. But he was always there when we wanted him, & never bothered us when we didn't. He did appear to be out of breath a few times, but that wasn't his fault. The menu is brief, but we still had to think hard when choosing, since everything on it was tempting. We were both satisfied with our choices. My duck was perfectly cooked, & expertly presented; the sides were delightful. My wife's lamb was the same for her (I had some, but preferred the duck; she had some of mine, & preferred hers. Perfect). What we saved by bringing our own bottle of wine, we tipped the waiter. It was worth it. If you want an excellent meal in an understated but congenial atmosphere, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you want Disney food in a cramped, overstated room full of ersatz ambiance, stay away, & let the rest of us enjoy it.
Very small non-pretentious BYOW restaurant with excellent quality of food! It was impossible to park anywhere around the restaurant & we had to park 3 blocks down from the restaurant. At the end the owner mentioned to us that there is a parking across the street & it costs 10$, which would be great if we knew that before. But the restaurant is about the food & not parking, right? The cuisine is French Sud-Ouest. A lot of dishes with duck & fois gras. The dessert was excellent as well! It's not a posh restaurant, but food, their taste & presentation are 5 stars! Quality/price ratio is good. Will recommend it to my friends & come back again!
Excellent food!! Good sevice great atmosphere. Bring your own wine. Lamb, stuff duck, grilled deer & salmon wow tasty we all love it!! Even the entree home made fois gras torchon!! The dessert home made sorbet three choice. Yes will go again amazing.
I'm honestly aghast at some of the reviews of Le P'tit Plateau. People who find the service odious? People who find the food bad? I believe there must be two things going on. 1) people have to realize this is a small restaurant with a menu-fixe that has exactly two sittings; it is incumbent upon the restaurant to provide for client's needs during each sitting; it is incumbent upon the clients to arrive in a timely fashion to allow the staff to do their job - being 30 minutes late is much more of an imposition than guests can imagine because it interferes with the entire workflow of the restaurant & potentially compromises the second sitting. 2) the food is excellent, locally sourced, & unusual in the sense that it is not chicken breast or roast beef; rather it is some of the tastiest & subtle game flavors one can find in Montreal - & prepared with the chef's respect for the ingredients. Bring your own wine - what a fantastic concept - & well suited for this fine French food. At one time or another, my guests & I have eaten Bambi, Thumper, Donald Duck, & Mother Goose - all being exquisite. My favorite is the lamb, which is nothing short of astonishing. I never seem to have room for dessert, & yet I always manage a bit of my spouse's :-) Make a reservation for the second sitting, arrive a few minutes early or just on time - as if you were going to a friend's home for dinner, & settle in for some of the best dining available in the city.
