I visited the Balzac this weekend with my girlfriend for her birthday. And let me tell you about my experience.
First when entering the restaurant you have an eerie feeling of whether you should turn around or continue walking through the door. From the outside the restaurant doesn't look the greatest, it looks dated and the location is on the main road in Granby. But as with most things, there is a huge difference on the inside from the outside. And once you walk through that door you will know what I am talking about. There is a very warm and inviting, with an almost rusto European feel to it. There are painting hanging everywhere, the hard wood floors look great, the old wooden beams give it a nice rustic appeal while not hurting the warmth of the atmosphere. We were greeted by a very nice lady who took our coats, and later found out she was the wife of the chef and owner of the restaurant.
Once we sat down I noticed the cleanliness of the establishment. The restaurant looked like it sat only about 50 people, but didn’t give away for the comfort of our experience. We were immediately asked to open our wine, and poured some water while we waited for the menus. While looking over the menu we were brought a nice homemade pate with crunchy bread which was delightful. The choices on the menu are fantastic. We both ordered different items to experience each other’s plates. The food quality is great, the presentation was great and the taste was great! All I can say is this is a diamond in the rough!
If you’re looking for a rather inexpensive fine dining experience please try this restaurant out. I didn’t find any other reviews on this establishment, so I thought it necessary to do so. We loved our experience and plan on going back! Trust me I have been too many restaurants and you will not be disappointed.
