The chef knows what he's doing. Excellent ingredients, simple but creative & well-executed dishes (the fish!) of Italian inspiration. Regards to the staff who are attentive but not fussy. I would have taken off half a star for the choice of wines by the glass, they were a little disappointing.Voir plus
Food was good but very overpriced for what you're getting. I'm sorry I'm writing this but the truth. Used to be better food but it looked kind of measlyVoir plus
Of course there's no such thing as a 5 star...but. This restaurant was one of our regular go toos since it opened. About three years ago we struck it off our list. Not that it was terrible, it had simply lost its value & spirit, in our opinion. Value is hard to determine as we are still talking personal taste in the case of food. I must however say that last night we decided to reserve a table & check it out. Wow! Service couldn't have been better. Food, every morsel mmmmwwwwaaaa! Delish! Still a bit pricey but that's just seems to be the new normal. From Barbara's warm & welcoming attention to the attentiveness of the busboy, in the words of Arnold... we'll be back!Voir plus
Not my preferred tavern location based on the atmosphere mostly. My friend & I were sat right in the middle of the restaurant, & the waiters kept on accidentally bumping into me, while carrying out food/drinks. The music they were playing was definitely a choice: rap music (with cursing & the n word), which seemed odd given the general crowd.Voir plus
This place is a hidden gem. Had the Tasting menu, it was absolutley amazing, locally sourced great quality ingredients transformed into tasty dishes. Josh was welcoming & his descriptions of teh plates made your mouth water!Voir plus
my friends go often & I am happy they brought us there..will be back!Voir plus
Delicious on a whole new level!! 😍 Appetizer: stripped bass crudo & bread (focaccia with wild stripped bass on a bed of kohlrabi crostone). As a foodie, the crudo was unreal (similar to ceviche). For main, I had the pork chops, quite filling, quite fatty I'm taste & generous proportions. The St Rita drink was perfect cocktail for a sweet ending. Thank you Xavier for excellent service.Voir plus
The 5555 burger, which is only available on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, is worth more than its original price. It's exquisite!Voir plus

Had to wait about 30 min for a table to be available. Service is ok but not outstanding. Food was excellent. I strongly recommend the salmon. Chose to sit at the terrace if the weather is good.
Pretentious & overpriced. Food was ok, it's nothing out of the ordinary. Drinks are just as ridiculously overpriced as the food. I know it's in the "Monkland Village" but considering the quality, it's not worth it. Ambiance is nice & service was better than the food.
Chef changed. food now horrible, or tasteless at best!! do not go to ths restaurant if you do not want to waste your hard-earned money!! Atmosphere & service is really good though.
We decided to revisit this Monkland street staple after at least 10 years since our last visit. Since this is a popular joint & they dont take reservations we fully expected to wait at least 1/2 hour before being seeting but we were pleasantly surprised to get a seat immediately, right against the open garage door looking out over the terrasse & street. The long wine list had few by the glass selections which were all pretty expensive (all $10 or more) - although the serving was goenerous & the glasses were proper which made up for the price (nothing worse than dinky glasses or small servings). We both chose from the table d'hote & started with the green salad. Fresh, cruchy lettuce sprinkled with sunflower seeds & dressed with a light & sweet vinigrette - pleasant. For the main my dining partner had the duck garnished with cherries - good reviews from her but I found the duck a little tough. I had the carbonara with chicken & asparagus. Pasta was perfectly aldente & sauce was lightly creamy rather than overbearingly rich - pretty good.
On the negative side, main took too long (at least 30 mins after salad) & no quality check. Overall experience agreeable.
We have visited tavern before with mixed feelings. However, tonight just really was an epic failure.
First of all, the service was poor. Our waiter's mustache was unkempt...Perhaps an ominous sign.
We ordered our bloody caesars & tried to order food some time later. The waiter was unsure about his menu & was not very helpful in choosing a meal in spite of such a short menu. Any waiter at a restaurant considered this 'caliber' should at least know his menu.
Our drinks were finished for at least 15 minutes, & the bread basket remained empty also. When the waiter approached us to let us know that our food was on it's way, we had to prompt him so that we could order our wine to go with our supper. Our bread basket was never re-filled.
The pork chop with rapini (26$) was practically naked, since there wasn't a carb in sight. For the price, it was a little pathetic considering you can buy 6lbs of pork LOIN for the same price. When I looked up after being startled by the sound, I saw my bf sawing through the pork chop like as if he were cutting down an over-sized christmas tree. To add insult to injury, the 5 scrawny pieces of rapini were undercooked & so underspiced that you were lucky if you got tasted some pot-water flavour from it.
The Chateau St Jean was bad, far too acid on the finish, likely corked.
In order to actually complain about the chop & the wine, we had to flag down a different server.
I tried to send the wine back but they brought the SAME glass back to me as if the hand-off from the attendant to our waiter magically resurrected the wine like the mighty phoenix... & yes, the 11.25$ still made it to my bill.
Not to mention, the friendly advice we gave to the waiter concerning the failure of a chop did not induce any form of sincere response or offer of compensation whatsoever.
With a feeble attempt at an apology, we recieved a 100$ bill. Needless to say, this was a giant rip-off for 2 people who are familiar with what good food & drink should cost.
The only thing that was decent were the bloody caesars (my BF really liked his, I didn't think it was so spectacular). (While my BF told me that he may go back for drinks, he will never eat there again...I will not go back at all.)
You should be ashamed of yourselves, Monkland Tavern.
