I bought some pastries there. The prices are RIDICULOUS. The only reason I went was because it is supposed to be one of the best in Montreal. I almost had a heart attack seeing the prices. You can find just as good for half the price at many places. Very over rated. The cashier kept trying to get me to buy more stuff. No thank you. Honestly nothing exceptional.
I went often as a little girl. It was a special then, and it still is. The staff was accommodating and caring to my requests regarding the fact that I am in a motorized wheelchair. Friendly staff, pastries to die for, and other yummy things. Back to memory lane... so enjoyable
I was very disappointed by my dining experience. I had invited 4 family members to join me for a light lunch. The last time I had come in May 2014 I found the service a little distracted but I excused it as a one-time event. Unfortunately it was worse this time. The waiters were busy talking amongst themselves and our orders got mixed up and some items were forgotten. The salad had a bug in it and it was left uneaten. No one inquired as to why it had not been touched. I expected much more from this establishment. We will not be returning.
Extremely disappointed and somewhat embarrassed at having subjected
my out of town guests to an uncomfortable and lacklustre meal.
The reputation of this restaurant has diminished considerably.
The staff numbers plenty yet attention to orders are non
The food quality itself is below par and hygiene is now an
issue. It is unfortunate but I can no longer continue to
recommend or frequent this particular establishment.
Every time I visit this fabulous place with incredible design, décor and service especially, the excellent taste of the food comes naturally. Genuine French pastry, extremely tasty croissants and coffees. What a fantastic scenic view form the terrace. A+++
This is my go to. Want to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend? perfect. Need a sandwich on the run? got it. Have a sweet tooth that needs to be addressed. the perfect remedy. The owners work everyday and the time, energy, and effort they put in is immediately apparent. Worth every penny.
I am a regular here and have tried most of the more substantial pastries on the menu. Coffee is amazing too. It's small but very comfy. Not a place to go when you are watching calories. My favourites: the almond croissant (heart attack on a plate), the Duc de Lorraine pizza, the tart with fruits, and the collection of its cheeses. Don't forget to pick up a delicious loaf of French style bread to take home with you!
I am a French food snob and am often disappointed with the Montreals' French restaurants and bakeries. I was happily surprised to find Duc De Lorraine to have croissants and pain au chocolates that rival the patisseries en France. I am very excited about this new find in the neighborhood and will certainly be back. C'est formidable.
This is the best of the best! Excellent design, the choice of different croissants are to die for, the tartelettes are simply the best I have had outside of Europe. I have tried many bakeries around Montreal and this is far superior than all. The desserts are heaven, there is not one dessert I have tried that isn't delicious. Go early if you want a baguette, they sell out quickly. The owner and staff are friendly and they treat every single customer as an old friend. They also have accordionist playing live music some evenings. Go and enjoy, you will think you are in France eating at a patisserie.
An amazingly tasty croissant with almonds. I would say this is the tastiest one that I have tried in Montreal and very close to Parisian one... Lattes are well done and fresh and rejuvenating which you can't say about other places. In addition the décor and design, and overall ambience is simply great and on the top of everything you may want from a French pastry. Nice outdoor sitting...
Upscale perfection. If an asteroid was heading toward earth and I had $20 in my pocket, I'd head to Duc de Lorraine. I'd get a delicious sandwich, a few tasty pates, and a couple of their signature croissants, which are like heavenlike pieces ofd delight, and I'd die with a smile on my face.
I've just discovered this bakery and can't rave about it enough! The cakes and tarts are delicious, and the sandwiches are devine! As for savory, I've only tried the quiche lorraine but it was also great and reminded me of the ones I'd get in France. The servers are kind and informative (I'm always asking for suggestions and they haven't let me down yet!). There is not a ton of seating but I've never been there and not been able to find a spot. It's quiet and a nice place to catch up with a friend or just chill with your laptop and a drink. I have a feeling I'm going to be a regular!
WOW!!! I got to say that this is the bakery I will for sure go and get my cakes. I just bought a birthday cake for my dad and honestly everybody at the party loved it. The cake was like heaven in your mouth aka that is a good cake. When I was going to the bakery to check out some cakes and flavors, employees were so nice and patience and helping me out with cakes size and flavors which I like that.
It took me a while to discover it. I also travel to Paris twice a year, which is responsible for my refusal to eat pastries or bread that aren't close to the perfection found there. So, I do know the difference between frozen cardboard filled with chemicals from the really fine stuff.
This bakery is the real deal, and has been my choice for the last couple of years or so, from the time it was owned by the previous owners to the last visit when I indulged in that birthday cake so deliciously described in a previously.
Croissants! Good? No. Great? YES. Crisp, delicate, impossible to eat in the car as it explodes into those flakes that are the mark of really good croissants.
The pates are wonderful, too wonderful! The cakes are tres francais. Light cakes filled with fresh fruit fillings or wonderful, not too sweet chocolate or hazelnut mousse, etc. The frosting, again, is in the French tradition of not being sweet, heavy buttercream (although there's nothing wrong with that!) but instead has a whipped cream/sugar texture that is much lighter. And they are GORGEOUS! I'm always proud to bring something from this bakery to any gathering.
