Dominic “Dick” Potenza was born in West Virginia and grew up in Utica, New York. He became well known in the Rochester - Buffalo area during the 40’s as a head-waiter in the supper-club type restaurants of the era. It was at one of these supper-clubs that he met his future wife, jazz accordionist Ann Collecchia, who performed using the stage name of Ann Russell. Together, they envisioned a fast food restaurant that would serve an original style hamburger with their own special sauce. After much thought, this original style hamburger took the form of a toasted bun containing a thin patty that would cook quickly. After they modified and combined two recipes that they brought with them from Rochester, Dick and Ann developed their famous hot sauce.
Reviews describe Dic Ann's Hamburgers as a long standing spot with an old school vibe where the burgers are simple but flavorful and the service is consistently courteous and fast. Patrons repeatedly report that meals arrive hot, orders are accurate, and the dining rooms feel clean and welcoming, while staff go out of their way to accommodate requests. The burgers are often praised for quality and flavor, with some calling them the best in Quebec and others noting the thin patties and distinct style, along with occasional remarks that the prices are a bit high for the portion. The poutine and fries receive mixed feedback, but many find the sides satisfying and well prepared. Across locations, reliability, friendly service, and a sense of tradition keep Dic Ann's on steady footing, though a few reviews mention variable value and occasional inconsistency. Overall, the consensus points to a memorable fast casual experience with character, solid food, and dependable service that makes it a notable choice for burger lovers in the area.

Ann's, where the humble burger is transformed into a feast most divine! The patties, though modest in form, burst forth with flavor rich & true, as though ambrosia itself were tucked betwixt the buns. Lo, the fries they call'poutine' are not of the Quebecer's sacred mold, yet still they please the palate & doth satisfy with hearty cheer. The service was swift as Mercury on wing, attendants most kind & gracious, who brought my meal with joyous haste. The hall itself was spotless, gleaming bright as a palace floor, & so pleasant was my stay that I vow upon my next journey I shall return anon. Dic Ann's, thou hast conquered my appetite & secured my loyalty henceforth!
