Been going there for 10years plus & it is still a delicious menu. Loud. & boisterous Fun ambiance ! Service is overall ok , slow bar. So I'd order wine & beer. Drinks were inventive but took forever to get to table unphased with our meal. This is the 3rd time the bar is slow. Add a barman or fire the current dude !

Our first visit- outstanding dining experience! We sat at the bar where the dynamic chefs kept us entertained just by doing their jobs. Great cocktails & wines by the glass. Decadent & stunning plates- we especially loved the Shepherd's Pie. Will return every time we visit Montreal.

I'm torn because this is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. The only problem is everything else such as the service & atmosphere was really, really, bad. Starting off with the good, the food here was amazing. Every single dish that we ordered blew our minds off. I'm not sure if they change their menu but I highly recommend the sweetbread, duck temaki, plogue a champlain, pork shank, & the salt & maple sugar fries. It was my second time having sweetbread & this was sooooo delicious. The duck temaki was the perfect ratio of rice & other ingredients. I loved the uniqueness of pouring your own yolk out of a small quail egg. The plogue a champlain came with a huge serving of foie gras & was amazing. I had nothing bad to say about any of the food we ate today. Definitely the best food we have had in Montreal so far! This is why it was so disappointing that I could not say the same about the service & restaurant itself. First, the tables at the back are super crammed. I could not get into my seat because the guy at the table besides me was literally touching my chair. Another patron saw me struggling & him & his wife moved my table forward for me just so I could sit down! Then when my mom sat in her chair, the lady at the table behind her came back from the washroom & couldn't get into her seat! She ranted something in French which I'm assuming wasn't positive about the tight space situation. When we first sat down we were greeted by a really nice server who was helpful & gave us great food suggestions. But then he rarely came back to check on us. I wanted to tell him how amazing the food was except, he never asked once we finished our courses! When I turned around I saw him bartending at the bar, so maybe he was both the server & bartender for the night? Maybe the restaurant was short staffed? I don't know, but the service was disappointing. So yes, my wine glass sat empty on the table & no one bothered to ask me if I would like another drink. When we finished our pitcher of water, another server took it away but didn't bring us a new one. When our water glasses sat empty for some time, I finally asked someone for another pitcher of water. & then, the strangest thing happened during the middle of dinner, where a guy took a Swiffer duster & started dusting the vents on top of everyone's heads while we were eating!! Me & a girl at the table across from me gave eachother a "what the F" look because we were bewildered they would not wait until later to do this? & I don't know why, but they kept trying to serve us other people's food!! Lol! This one poor guy brought us three dishes that weren't ours. So this is why I'm torn. I would absolutely die for the food here but I just wish the service was better.

A heartfelt thank you to Alex, Sous Chef James (I hope this name is correct. It was loud. He's from Saskatchewan. Makes a mean salt & maple sugar pomme frite) & the entire team. We had a fantastic evening at Au Pied de Cochon last night, due largely in part to their warmth & hospitality. **Sit at the bar if you dine here**. Watching this team work their tails off to serve us impeccably presented dishes elevated the experience in a way sitting at table wouldn't deliver & we greatly appreciated the front row seat & the time they took to interact with us. We enjoyed the foie gras nigiri, the infamous duck in a can, & the salt & maple sugar pomme frites. The restaurant boasts a great wine selection as well. Definitely order a side of the sourdough bread if you try the duck in a can to mop up all of the delicious sauce. The shots of jalapeno vodka & St-Germain proved to be a delightful surprise. We're contemplating a return visit to try the poutine, which stands apart from all the other poutine in Montreal in that the gravy is enhanced with fat from the foie gras. Thanks again, chefs.

Not nearly as fatty as people think. We had some very inventive & refined dishes, served with excellent pairings of wine & beer. The staff is very helpful & friendly.

I was lucky to get a table here during my stay in Montreal, & I was alone, so I had all the time in the world to savour the food, wine & atmosphere. & what an atmosphere that was - seated a the bar right in front of the open kitchen, pure organised chaos (think The Bear...) Super attentive servers, friendly & chatty, neither my water or wine glass were ever empty. I took the sweetbreads, shepherds pie & pouding chômeur, along with wine chosen by the waiter, the dessert in particular was astonishingly good Next time I'll try the poutine as is looked really good

Food was above average but not high end, which was completely acceptable for me. I thought the wine service was poor. I would not have expected that this calibre of restaurant would think that serving $200+ red wine at greater than 18C was acceptable. The sommelier was completely useless.

Best meal of my life! As a solo diner I felt super comfortable & at ease sitting at the bar, with a fun view of the kitchen. Amazing foie gras specialities, excellent wine list & cocktail. I'd come back to Montreal exclusively to have the Plogue à Champlain, & the foie gras nigiri. Amazing experience from beginning to end!

We began with a glass of wine & three appetizers - scallops with basil & melon, the blue cheese salad, & the potato au gratin cheddar & bacon fois gras plate. All were exceptional & delicious & better than expected. Next, we had the Fois Gras Nigiri which was eaten fast but each bite was savored-a great portion, too! Our main course was next! We got the halibut, duck in a can, & the pork shank. All the portions were great however, the pork shank was more than enough, & we didn't finish that sadly. Although it was scrumptious. The sauce that accompanied it was delicious & so were the lentils. The halibut was fresh surrender by seasonal vegetables & caught in the wild. The duck in the can was consistent & delicious & is one of the staples on the menu, you can't go wrong here. Dessert was the traditional Quebec maple bread pudding which I could've had seconds! It's the best dessert you can get in the province of Quebec especially if you're a maple fiend like we are. C+ for seating us across from the bathroom & near screaming babies, otherwise everything was an A+.

One of the most memorable meals I have ever had. The foie gras terrine was rich & perfect. The sale & maple sugar fries were a treat. Salads are colorful & delicious. The Duck in a Can was special. Vast & diverse wine selection. I enjoyed their Gin de Monocle, which they distill. The restaurant staff felt like a true team with attentive, sociable, generous service. All in an inviting, fun, walkable neighborhood. We will be back! Thank you, Au Pied de Cochon!

With one exception, the food was fantastic. The foie gras poutine was off the charts delicious--totally worth the Bon Appetit assessment as one of the best poutines in Montreal. The halibut was perfectly done, the endive blue cheese salad was fresh & delightfully balanced, & the foie gras profiteroles would satisfy anyone enjoying this delicacy. The pork chop with morels & chanterelles, however, was tough & fatty. The dulce de leche lava cake was scrumptious; the pistachio profiteroles less so. The atmosphere was very lively & fun, & the staff clearly enjoyed great camaraderie with each other. The music got louder as the evening went on & it became too loud for us. The person who greeted us when we arrived was extremely warm & friendly. Our waiter, too, was very pleasant & helpful, including with recommendations about how much food to order & the wine. If we were only basing this service review on these two, we'd give 5 stars. But we did have a significant complaint that wasn't the waiter's fault--the service was incredibly slow. It took a long time to get our first course & then took VERY long in between courses--in one instance 45 minutes. We were seated at about 6:15 pm & did not finish until 10 pm. That was at least an hour longer than it should have been. Aside from the slow service, I'd definitely recommend Au Pied de Cochon for a delicious meal.

The best meal we had in our two weeks in Canada. Truly excellent Canadian wagyu cote du bouef with pommes dauphinoise & asparagus. Extensive wine list. Very strong on french wines. Great, friendly, knowledgeable service. Recommended.

I had a fantastic solo date here on my last night in Montreal. This place has been recommended to me with fervor from another foodie friend of mine, & boy I was just enamored by the vibe of the joint, the staff & of course, the food & wine. I sat at the bar & made friends with the bartender & staff as well as the other diners sitting near me - thank you beautiful folks for the hospitality & generosity! Their menu changes regularly from what I understand, based on seasonality of ingredients. If you can order any of the dishes I had - I highly recommend. Oysters were nicely shucked & presented, with a quail egg cured yolk to garnish - this was really nice, especially with the champagne they have on the menu. I followed that with the appetizer size of their lobster rolo - this came with beautifully cooked & sauced fiddleheads & morels. Such a delight of a dish! Well balanced overall. For my mains I tried two of their foie gras dishes & you MUST order them - the foie gras nigiri & the buckwheat pancake. I've never had foie gras served like nigiri over a delicately maple seasoned portion of rice - & let me tell you, I'm still salivating over these bites. I paired with a Rhône & it was perfect. The buckwheat pancake was delightfully crispy, accompanied by maple syrup & a smoky bacon/ ham slice, & of course, a generous portion of foie gras. Delectable! I for sure will be coming back to this establishment & I'm excited for them to continue to establish themselves as a Montreal staple. Merci!

My husband & I randomly came across Au Pied de Cochon on our last day of Montreal & it turned out to be one of best restaurants we had ever been to. Nicholas was our server & he was so nice & helped us pick out our dinner choices as well as cocktails/wine - everything tasted incredible!!! He did such a great job explaining everything as we were a little unsure about the unique dishes. It was the perfect way to end our honeymoon experience in Canada. We will certainly remember it & hope to come back again in the future.

Energetic atmosphere, friendly attentive service, colossal wine list, duck confit with fois gras, bacon & cabbage, one of my most memorable meals in the last 5 years.

Yes, this place is worth the hype. It's decadent, irreverent but ultimately stupidly delicious. This is ugly food that tastes better than most things you've had. Wine menu is impressive but they also have a cider offering that keeps you happy. Overall must visit in Montreal.

Food was very rich. Lots of fat with everything we ordered. I expected that with the fois gras, but not the tagine or the canned duck. I'm glad I finally went, but likely won't go back. Service was excellent, only one bathroom, really nice wine list.
