About Us

The Au Pied de Cochon restaurant is where it all began. Passed from one generation to the next, family knowledge contributes to the restaurant's reputation. Constantly evolving, the Pied de Cochon celebrates its 20th anniversary in November 2021. This à la carte restaurant is located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal. Authentic to its Quebec and Canadian roots, the dishes are hearty and comforting. Adopting the style from French brasseries, the chef and his team draw inspiration from local and seasonal products to create a timeless menu. With private import wines, beers brewed in Montreal, and signature cocktails, Au Pied de Cochon restaurant is a friendly place where local products are showcased. There is one of the first open kitchens in Montreal where you can see the cooks in action.

Friends had recommended/demanded I go to Au Pied de Cochon when I visited Montréal & they were not wrong - this was just a fabulous night. Could not fault it on anything - food, wine, service, atmosphere or price. I had excellent veal sweetbreads, snow crab mapo tofu & the devastating Pouding chômeur as well - totally full but so worth it.View more

Nous étions 4 convives...nous avons pris des plats à partager..la langue de boeuf & le foie gras sur croûton de sarrasin, en entrée...c'était divin!! Puis nous avons enchaîné avec le pieds de cochon & foie gras, une pure merveille en bouche & la tajine...vraiment déçu de ce dernier plats, on avait l'impression de manger du parfum, on aurait dit que le chef avait échappé son pot d'épices dedans!! A 53$ le plat, on s'attendrait à mieux...nous avons informé le serveur..il semblait désolé & nous a octroyé un rabais de 7,88$ sur le plat (insultant)!! Si seulement le serveur était venu nous voir afin de vérifier si tout était à notre goût, nous l'aurions retourné tant c'était indigeste ..personne de notre groupe n'a aimé...& pourtant nous adorons les tagines & en mangeons régulièrement!! Les desserts, eux , étaient délicieux! Mon point fort...le fois gras, je suis amatrice & j'ai été ravi de déguster de deux façons!!View more

Mon 3 étoiles étaient seulement pour des petits détails, peut être qui feront la différence. Mon conjoint a pris le plat de morceau de porc, cependant il n'y avais aucun accompagnement appart la sauce... très déçu surtout pour le prix de 57$, Mon repas a moi canard en conserve un délice :D Pour ce qui est du dessert j'ai pris la pouding chômeur, j'aurais pris une boule de crème glacer sur le top pour venir couper le sucre un peu. Sinon l'ambiance, les gens tout étaient parfait :)View more

What a fantastic restaurant & experience. I would give it 6 stars if I could! The staff is really friendly, engaging, & courteous. The food is impeccable & the portions generous. The drinks (cocktails) were amazing, & they'll even make you customized cocktails that aren't on the menu. The vibe & atmosphere, a little busy but fabulous. Everything we tried was full of flavour & the highlight was the duck in a can & the creme caramel dessert. Highly recommended this place even if you get a 5pm reservation! The hostess & staff were very friendly. They made our visit so very enjoyable as we got into the foie gras themed plates that I call "La bouffe du diable" aka the devil's food. This a term that the chef appreciated as we devoured his amazing & wonderful creations. We started with the oblivious draw: foie gras poutine, the first sinful act. Then, the plogue a champlain, which combined decadent foie gras with a grilled ham (wasn't sure if it was but doesn't matter as its mixture brought on the a mouthgasm). The main courses were a lovely blood sausage & foie gras pie & aged pork chop with cabbage & an incredible mushroom sauce. I needed a glass of red wine to complement all that heart attack-inducing goodness & was blessed with a generous grail of a velvety Pinot noir. Praise the Dark Lord! When I thanked the chef & mentioned that I had hoped my dining companion would order the pork chop so I could order the foie gras mapo tofu, he said he would bless us with a sample. "Holy F*ck!!" was what came to mind when I had that first bite. My dining companion uttered "OMFG!!" I am & remain in awe of this amazing if not best dinner I've ever had. I thank the chef & his staff for creating an astonishing ambiance for us to submit to La Bouffe du Diable! Praise be to his mastery of Foie Gras!!!

The meal was incredibly well balanced in flavors combining the meat with the natural bitterness of herbs & greens & the creaminess & sweetness of the accompanying ingredients. The scallop rotolo appetizer was perfectly cooked where the scallops had a almost cheese-like texture. For main, we got the tanjia, complemented by a blue cheese salad upon the waiter's recommendation for a balanced flavor. The tanjia was earthy & rich, served with sauces that added a refreshing, slightly sweet, & spicy flavor, along with crispy bread. Delight to the senses of tastes, sights, & sounds. The ambience was comfortable, staff were completely professional yet friendly as they check up on you every so often. Chef came out to chat with us & decided to send us a sample of the Ma Po Tofu foie gras when we mentioned one of us wanted to order it. Very friendly & generous. Awful value for $250 for 2 apps + 2 entrees (one of which was pretty much inedible), no drinks, embarrassing/inattentive slow service. Bar seating in narrow path with staff regularly bumping into chair. Staff was inattentive & what was supposed to be a quick meal dragged out as an uneaten entree sat in front of us for 40is minutes, at which point we finally got the chance to say the dish was too salty to be able to eat comfortably, & the supposed manager just told us we didn't understand the dish (I've eaten Tanjia in Morocco, I don't think that is the issue). No remediation was offered. It then took another 20 minutes of circus to communicate that we wanted to leave/pay. Staff dumped a large amount of very oil/soupy entree into an absorbent cardboard clamshell with low sides which it easily soaked through making it near impossible to handle/transport, even though they had quart containers made to transport liquids right next to the clamshells. Would not be returning. I know there are off nights but I have such a hard time imagining this is the same prestige restaurant an experience that everyone else is having.
