Across reviews, Au Coin Berbere Couscous Montreal is praised for hearty, flavorful couscous and traditional Algerian dishes, with generous portions and authentic spices. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is attentive and friendly. Dishes like lamb couscous, bourek, brik, and a rich vegetable broth are repeatedly praised, as are desserts and mint tea, while the decor evokes North African charm. The upstairs dining space is noted for a cozy, intimate vibe, making it a favorite for family meals, and many guests express eagerness to return for another visit.
This is a friendly, family-run restaurant, serving excellent food, especially couscous. We have enjoyed several meals, all well made & well served. My only complaint is their policy of charging $9 per "extra" person, if the number of main courses ordered is smaller than the number of diners. The portions are very generous, & far more food than my family needs to consume in one meal. We ordered an additional dinner to avoid paying $9 for nothing, & then took home more than a full meal in leftovers, to avoid wasting food. It made the experience a bit less friendly.
Delicious food (especially, the couscous dishes & the salads), excellent service (competent, attentive, & courteous), & nice ambiance. The fresh mint teas & desserts are A1 (in particular, dates filled with marzipan & baklava). It is a BYOW place that is easily accessible by BMW (bus, metro, walk); forget the car, if possible, as finding parking in the vicinity of the is rather difficult (particularly in the evening). Very highly recommended for non-vegetarians. Rather limited choices for vegetarians.
It was a very Nice evening, the couscous with vegetables & lamb were amazing. The staff very helpful. We were there for 7:00
We were the only ones there but by 8:00 all the tables were occupied. It has been open 38 years.
