Amber is widely regarded as a premier destination for Indian and Pakistani cuisine in Montreal, consistently praised for its authentic, flavorful dishes and generous portions. Guests frequently highlight standout menu items like the naan, butter chicken, and various lamb specialties, noting that the restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that works well for both intimate dates and group gatherings. The establishment operates on a bring-your-own-wine basis, which many patrons appreciate as a budget-friendly benefit. While experiences with service can vary, many diners report receiving attentive, friendly, and professional care from the staff, often contributing to a memorable dining experience that keeps locals and visitors alike returning regularly.
The beautifully decorated Indo-Pakistani, BYOW, restaurant is located in the heart of the Plateau, on Rachel. First, the decor is stunning, the choice of colors, the bar, the wall art...everything is well thought out. We were greeted by the lovely owner who served us a feast. They do not serve alcohol but their non-alcoholic drinks will make you forget alcohol! We got the Mango Virgin Mojito, which was absolutely AMAZING, & the Iced Caramel Chaï Latte, which was perfect! We highly recommend their drinks! We also got to try their famous lunch thali (they have veg or non-veg) which is served only from Wednesday to Sunday (11:30 - 16:00). The thali is so complete, with an appetizer, your choice of main curry, 2 veggie curries, rice, naan, & a dessert. Then we got a few dishes; - Paneer Tikka - Chicken Kebab Masala (MY FAVE!) - Haleem Beef - Chicken Vindaloo We finished the meal with a Cardamom Crème Brûlée & an Almond Kulfi. We highly recommend trying out this place! The food is exquisite!
Lovely staff !! The food is very good for the price as well. We had the Butter Chicken & the Lamb Curry. The unlimited rice & bring your own wine are great added bonuses. We'll come back !
Ate there recently, the food is amazing, as a big fan of Indian food, this place didn't disappoint at all. I got the chicken tikka masala, with rice & got naan as well, while my family took the menu, with a whole lot of different kinds of food & we all loved it.

Items ordered: Midi Thaali(untill 4pm only weekdays), lamb biryani & lamb karahi & naans. Portions are very good. Bit more than 1 person can finish. Specially the thaali. Thaali has 1 non veg & 2 veg curries & comes with samosa, naan, rice, chutney & dessert. It was very good. Biryani was good this time, spice level was ordered very spicy & like we say in our language(paisa wasool +) means money was fully recovered in taste & pleasure. Same goes for lamb karahi ordered in very spicy level & is a plus in all taste & portion & enjoyment. 👌 authentic taste. Naans were big & awesome. So we loved everything & was satisfied. Very good & not at all expensive. Well done.
I believe Amber offers the best overall experience for Indian/Pakistani food. The decor is sleek, offering what appears to be a vast dining area. The service on my last 3 visits has been pleasant is all aspects. On my last two visits I ordered the lamb biryani along with the saag paneer & bartha. In my book you can judge the quality of the establishment by it's Biryani, Amber's biryani is delicious. The rice isn't oily, there are just enough nuts & dried fruit along with a well balanced spice mix. The lamb (a generous portion) is succulent The rest of the dishes were also well spiced although I prefer the eggplant to be more present in flavour. The service is great My favourite place & to boot my dining partner will only eat Indian/Pakistani food at Amber.
Don't take the chicken tikka masala, it was really subpar & definitely not worth 18$. The sauce was too liquid, & the chicken was dry on the inside. The rice was mid. Other dishes like the chicken curry seemed ok. This place is trying to appear fancy, & the decoration is good, but the quality of the food is not at the adequate level for the price.
The service & the atmosphere was truly amazing. The front staff were friendly & accommodating, & were gladly able to respond to any of our questions. The service was fairly quick, even when their busy. I will recommend trying out the saag paneer with a side of rice, which was creamy & full of flavors. The bengun had bursting flavors, especially the smokey taste since it's made in the tandoor. In the meaty side, my absolute favorite were lamb korma, lamb karahi, saag shrimp & haleem beef. & lastly, our chicken biryani was well cooked, the combination of the spices, meat & the rice were perfectly balanced. I would highly recommend trying out this place. It is very affordable & all the dishes are well priced. My family & I enjoyed it a lot & we will come back again.
Delicious food! The fried entrées were not too greasy & the tamarind dipping sauce is worth keeping to pour over main course & rice too! Friendly service & a nice vibe inside the restaurant. Virgin cocktails are unique, try the tamarind margarita or blueberry cardamom explosion - very tasty! Apportez votre vin/cidre.
My wife, my daughter who is 7 & a very fussy eater & myself, walked in today by fluke today for lunch. We shared am order of butter chicken which came with rice & we each got a naan. All I know is that I am very happy I walked in. My 7 year old fussy eater daughter, this is her new favourite restaurant. The butter chicken, we have never had butter chicken as good as this. The naan bread was huge, fluffy & incredible. The rice, my wife & I didn't try but my daughter had & said it's her favourite rice. The service I give 2 thumbs up as well.
