My friends and I had a PHENOMENAL dinner last night. Absolutely every bite of every dish was perfect. On top of having one of the best meals I have had in a long time, the service was impeccable. Our waiter, Luciano, was funny, helpful, and patient while maintaining his polite professionalism the entire time. This was a great experience, and Primo e Secondo is one of this city's best restaurants.
Plusieurs visites depuis mon premier commentaire et si possible, encore meilleur. Quelle recherche dans les plats! La liste de vin s'allonge pour le mieux.
L'acceuil? incroyable. Gentil sans être sussureux; vous donne envie d'y retourner le lendemain.
Et on peut se parler sans crier! ! ! !
Ce restaurant est sans contredit l'un des meilleurs restaurants de Montréal et ce, toutes catégories confondues. Le service est irréprochable. Le snobisme a été mis de côté pour faire place à une ambiance agréable et décontracté. La carte des vins est impeccable. Le prix est tout à fait raisonnable lorsque l'on prend en considération la qualité du service que nous recevons ainsi que de la nourriture que nous y mangeons. Bravo !

Ambiance agréable, bon service, mais tout se gâte dans l'assiette. En effet malgré la qualité des ingrédients ,la quantité de sel ajouté fait que vous avez l'impression de déguster une saumure. À votre sortie vous êtes prêt pour l'acv! Aussi l'absence de légumes fait cruellement défaut. Le tout se termine avec une addition également très salée. En définitive très décevant.
One word "Fantastic". I am not one to really want to go to an Italian restaurant since I grew up eating it, but we went there for a 65th birthday party, and oh my, it was delicious.
I ordered the beef carpaccio and it was fresh, light, and melted in your mouth. My husband ate half my dish even though he is the type of person to ask for his hamburger super well done. He's been converted.
Main dish was three huge shrimps, U6, with mango salsa, on a puree of white beans. They were succulent and prepared to perfection.
Dessert was put in the middle of the table for us to share. Nothing really stood out, though nothing was bad. We had the creme caramel, tiramisu, and something else that I can't recall.
It is an expensive restaurant, and though I wouldn't go there every week, I find for quality of food and service it to be well priced and would definitely go back.
Excellent service, excellente nourriture. Recettes très originales. Produits frais et de qualité. Un peu cher... mais ça vaut la peine une fois de temps en temps!
Let me just say, SIMPLY THE BEST RISOTTO!!! (Mushroom risotto)
Il ne faut pas se fier à l'extérieur très simple...ce restaurant est un des meilleur de Montréal.
J'aime beaucoup cet endroit, la nourriture est toujours très bonne, u mélange de classique italien avec une petite touche français...très bon service, des serveurs qui connaissent les bieres, vins, fromages proposés. Deux bémols...la tailles des portions de fromages, c'est vraiment petit (par contre le miel de truffe est délicieux). Et les desserts...le tiramisu aux châtaignes qui n'avait pas de gout. Par contre le fondant au chocolat est a se rouler par terre!!
L'addition n'est pas donné mais c'est un très bon restaurant!
i loved their risottos but this is way too pricey and portions a bit small.
My main course consisted of an impeccable Porcini Mushroom'd risotto: I could not have asked for some freshest wild mushrooms (heavenly fresh!) and for any nicer creamy consistency (perfectly executed!). The risotto had the great aromatic flavor expected from the rightful risottos.
My girlfriend went with the saffron'd monkfish dish (pescatrice allo zafferano): had some bites of it, and the fish was utterly scrumptious with it's all light fresh flavours + perfect meaty taste. Impressively tasty.
Dessert consisted of a french classic: the chocolate lava cake that we both shared -> it had the irreprochable melting-mouth creamy and savourish consistency and taste. Delectable!
Only downside that both my girlfriend and I found a bit disappointing: the service (it was heading more on the pompous side on that saturday evening we had spent there).

Bien que l'art culianire et le service soient au premier rang, ce n'est pas un resto pour y dépenser 400$ (pour 2). Dommage que l'ambiance soit complètement nul. De plus, ca prend 5 minutes au serveur pour expliquer le menu qui est entièrement en italien. Ne manquez rien de ce qu'il dit... puisque vous aurez de la difficulté à revoir le menu par vous-même ! La carte des vins est élaborée... à prix ridiculement exorbitants. Une fois par année, j'aime m'offrir un restaurant qui peut coûter autour de 400$. Mais je m'attends à un tout... pour me plaire à tout prix ! Cela n'a pas été le cas ici. Désolé !
I've been to Primo & Secondo several times in the last year, and I can say with all certainty that it is by far the best Italian restaurant in Montreal.
The service is professional and attentive; the food is divine and the wine list one of the best selections of Italian wines I've ever seen in one place.
It's not a cheap restaurant, but the quality (and quantity!) of the food makes it worth every penny.
The one thing that was slightly off about my more recent visits was the music. I know it's a minor point, but when I went in the summer, I was blown away. I've been in the music industry for over 30 years, and to go to a place like Primo & Secondo and hear Duffy, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse was truly inspiring, and made the place feel like it was run by young, hip people who knew what they were doing.
More recently, however, only Duffy has remained from the original playlist, the rest being replaced with old trattoria standards like Eros Ramazzoti and Michael Buble. Every single restaurant on the planet plays Michael Buble. Primo & Secondo does EVERYTHING right, except the music. Bring back Amy Winehouse, put on The Killer's new album, play something modern and cool to go with the cool, hip, modern food. If you're serving spaghetti and meatballs and canneloni, you can play Eros. If you're serving duck risotto and cioppino, you need to modernise the music.
Other than that, it's the greatest place in town for excellent food and wine. Go there, you won't be disappointed, but RESERVE IN ADVANCE!
I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend for our anniversary (Nov. 2008).
First of all, the food was excellent. It is quite pricey, but you probably won't be disappointed. The duck risotto they were offering was the best I've ever had.
I must say, however, the experience was ruined by the service. They seemed to feel as though they were too good for us and immediately dismissed us as not their usual clientèle. When we asked the waiter for a wine suggestion for our meal his only response was "I have something in mind" at which point he brought a bottle, opened it and left it on our table without ever telling us what it was or why he chose it! At one point the original waiter stopped coming back, even though he was standing only about 8 feet away washing glasses at the bar. When we wanted more food I had to actually get up, go to the bar and ask him. He never did come back for the rest of the night and our table was eventually picked up by two other servers without any explanation. I guess dirty glasses are more important than customers? Overall, the attitude of our server (+ the 2 others) made us feel unwelcomed, uncomfortable, and angry; since it was not a cheap restaurant, yet we still made an effort to try a lot of things from their menu. I expected a lot more from this place.
If you just want good food and don't care about price or experience then give it a try. If you are looking to have a nice meal in a friendly environment then I would strongly caution you to think twice.
I ate here with my wife and some friends and had very high expectations. For the most part, they were met. This is a pricey restaurant but the food is well above average. The waiter was very knowledgeable and seemed to truly enjoy his work. Small restaurant but very comfortable atmosphere. Only small complaint - service was a bit slow. I definitely will return!
Very quaint restaurant, with limited seating, therefore sure to get attentive service! The food is very mouth savoring and made fresh. You can surely taste the freshness in the ingrediants.
Highly recommended, this along with Restaurant Lucca is a hidden gem in the heart of Little Italy!
