Excellent food. Great service. Best Indian food ever.
Premiere fois et derniere fois qualite de la nourriture a désiré, poulet goute le congeler!
I decided to give Chef Akbar a try seeing as there are limited good Indian restaurants in the west island. I love leaving good reviews! Unfortunately for Chef Akbar, that wont be happening today. I ordered for takeout (which took 30 minutes, I was expecting a masterpiece) so I cannot comment on the service but I gave 2 stars for the delightful packaging and plating, as it was clean and tidy, otherwise I would have given 1 star as I do not believe this place deserves a 4.6/5 rating.
So I ordered the Balti Lamb which came with rice, chickpea masala, Naan and salad and I ordered a Samosa on the side.
Naan: Disappointing as the Naan was dry and literally could be mistaken for a Naan right out of the packaging of the grocery store, and I don't mean the fancy brands either.
Rice: The rice was satisfactory, but rice is rice..
Chickpea Masala: Unfortunately it was under cooked and bland and was basically inedible. Had to throw it away. What a mess..
Salad: Fresh salad which was a breath of fresh air compared to other places.
Samosa: For $1.50 I was expecting the single best Samosa of life. It turned out being the worst I've had. The fried batter was good but the inside was bland and even the sauce it came with was bad and was unable to help the poor thing.
Balti Lamb: It was actually quite nice, light in flavor which I don't mind, could of been a bit better but definitely a pass which is good for them. Because If the Balti Lamb was bad, I would have drove back to get a refund on the meal(which I have never done but there would have been a first for that one if it wasn't for the Lamb)
So Balti Lamb meal $16
With taxes came up to $20 and change.
I gave the Food 2 stars as the main portion of the meal was satisfactory(Balti Lamb and rice/salad).
This meal was approximately 2X the price of similar places (non veg) but 2X worse than anywhere I've been. I hope the owner reads this so he picks up his game. I read another review saying the Owner gloated about his food and encouraged to leave a positive review... Who is he comparing his food too?
I wont be ordering from here anymore.
Msg to Owner: If you feel this review was not accurate. I can try back in 1 month (at random) and try again.
Small restaurant with great food and service. Bring your own wine. Reasonably priced.
Excellent food and service.
Small restaurant that eats big, the onion bhaji is the best I've ever tasted.
Will be returning very soon.
My friends and I love trying new Indian places. We went to this one because we read the reviews and figured it would be a good place to try. We got take out so I can't really comment on the service, the person who served us was very nice
We fed 5 people for about 50$ which is not bad price wise. Here are the issues we had:
1) portions of rice were too small, they were served in the take-out burger containers and weren't full
2) Naan bread was obviously not fresh. It looked almost like the kind of Naan you can buy at Maxi and also tasted like it
3) We asked for 3 spicy butter chicken. It was bland, the chicken was over cooked/rubbery, we had to add some hot sauce from home to make it edible.
4) the Saag Paneer was really not good.
How this place ever got a good rating is beyond me. We were supposed to eat Indian food that night, unfortunately that's not what we got.
I would not recommend this place to anyone.
This indian restaurant has been our favorite for years! We usually take out. It's a very small restaurant and very interesting for private parties because you can bring your own wine! Fresh food very good! Butter chicken is our favorite. Onion Bhaji! Ask for extra sauce! amazing! Palak Paneer we get every time and we just tried the blackpepper chicken! The owners are super nice! Everything we tried has been super good and made fresh. Not like the buffet types that I personally don't like. Best indian food!
This Indian restaurant is truly my favourite where my boyfriend and I visit at least once a week. Every time we have visited, we have tried different dishes including the famous butter chicken, lamb roghan josh, fish masala, and chilli shrimp and they all hit the spot. You can also specially request how spicy you want the dish and the staff are more happy to make the dish for you. The chef even came up to see us and ask us how we are which makes it very welcoming. To round off our meals, we always have their masala chai which is amazing. Highly recommended!
Best Butter Chicken in town!!!! Awesome food and friendly staff. I would (and do!) recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious and authentic Indian cuisine. Keep up the good work.
Amazing restaurant with great food, service and atmosphere. It was probably one of the best Indian food I have ever tasted since my trip to India in 2005. Our entrees, mains and desserts were all delicious. Extra credit should be mentioned for the Beef Vindaloo dish fantastic. This meal was the last night of our vacation and truly the best. We have raved to all our friends and family. It is not just a meal, but a curry experience. Highly recommended!
My experience was that the food was bland, the prices were much higher than most other similar places and the portions were small.
Additionally I don't really feel comfortable having the owner come and see me just to gloat about how good his food is and pushing me to go on resto montreal just to give a positive review.
Well here's my review. I hope you like it.
Chef Akbar's the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to in Montreal. I went there for Mothers Day with my family and we had a wonderful time. They served an Indian lobster dish specially for Mothers Day and it was absolutely delicious. I never had lobster curry before but this dish was amazing and I truly enjoyed it! My family enjoyed their meals as well and loved the Chettinad Beef, Chicken Lababdar and Black Pepper Shrimp dish. I highly recommend anyone to try out there food it's worth the money.
Having been a regular customer at Chef Akbar, I can say this is by far the best Indian restaurant I have been too. Last week, I brought my colleagues from work and they extremely enjoyed all the dishes. To all the food lovers out there, I would recommend you to try out this lovely Restaurant. Absolutely delicious Indian food! It's better to make a reservation before going.
Petite salle, max 22 personnes.
This was our first time at this restaurant. Not only its a great, fabulous food for reasonable price but also the service was fantastic and can draw easily any first time customers. What a pleasant environment and a very clean restaurant!
During the Christmas time I and my colleagues from Ottawa visited to Montreal. One of my colleagues cousin recommend for us about the Chef Akbar. Its definitely a good recommendation, because food quality and quantity is best for the menu price. Butter Chicken dish with naan is a very tasty combination, we went to many Indian cuisines in Ottawa, but this is a fabulous taste, we never ever eat this much of tasty butter chicken any ware.
We would recommend to anybody about this restaurant. We will definitely go back there for butter chicken dish!
Had dinner with 8 friends on Friday night and we were all blown away by the quality of everything we ordered. We ordered a variety of starters to share and throughly enjoyed trying some more unusual dishes. Everything was very fresh and tasty. I would recommend to anyone to try the Malabar fish cutlets, Kadhai Gosht, and Madrasi chicken curry. The menu was huge so I'm looking forward to going back to try more dishes soon.
The friendly chef is a presence in the front-restaurant as well and the food is outstanding. The Beef Rogan Josh is excellent.
