Restaurant japonais traditionnel.

It might look like a typical small restaurant set in any Montreal basement but the food will bring you to Japan; not to California, not to Vietnam, and not to China. I just had one small problem one evening, my sushi rice was uneven. Good thing the better rice was under the more expensive pieces of fish and the lesser one was still better than at most other other places that serve sushi in Montreal. Of course, if you're able to get yourself a table, you should not waste the chance to try the other dishes which are somewhat rare on local menus.

I have been eating at this restaurant regularly for a number of years now.

The servers are always so pleasant and reasonably quick.
Remember to call ahead and reserve if you can. It's a small place and I've found them full on a random wednesday night before. They also close very early sometimes.

The food is delicious, simple, traditional. No fancy fusion dishes. Servings are generous but not excessive. I have tried many things on the menu and have not had a bad experience.

This is not a 'fancy' restaurant but it is a pleasant ambiance.

Excellent.

Gochiso-sama!

Upon entering this restaurant, you feel immediately transported to Japan. Most authentic Japanese resto in town hands down. The whole staff is japanese...which adds a really great feel. The way the waitress we had spoke, you felt like she was right out of an anime.
They close early (9-930 pm), and are often full, so reservations are a good idea. You will not find the name of the restaurant nor any indication that there is a restaurant there anywhere outside. The place actually looks run down and the few times I walked by it I didn't even notice it. I went with a friend and we started with the Chawanmushi which is an egg custard dish eaten with a spoon; it comes in a really small bowl and you eat it with a spoon.
Then we had the sukiyaki (which they prepare at your table). It was really delicious. For desert had black sesame ice cream. It was a first, and the only reason we ordered it was because we saw them bring it to another table. It was really good, similar to hazelnut ice cream.
This place has more of a casual "home-y" feel and isn't too pricy.

All in all, highly recommended.

My Japanese wife and I go regularly. It used to be called Osaka. This place is Japanese owned. The 2 chefs and staff are all Japanese. Excellent traditional sushi. They use proper rice and you can notice the difference right away. Other dishes are all excellent. It is a simple place so don't expect an extensive sake or wine selection. It is more like a Japanese tavern. It is all about the food. For those who lived in Japan for a long time it is the best place for sushi in Montreal. Reservations are required. It is always packed. The service is slow so go there feeling relaxed with no worries and you will have a great meal. The best place for genuine sushi without a doubt in the city, in my humble opinion.

Best sushi place! I have found it hard to find a good japanese resto that offers fresh raw fish. However, Furusato (formerly Osaka) offers among the most fresh fish I've ever tasted. They also offer a variety of hot authentic japanese dishes. The resto is often packed so a reservation is recommended. The chef and the staff are very friendly and genuinely ensure our satisfaction.

Service can be somewhat slow at times, but it's worth it for the tastiest, most authentic Japanese food on the island.
