Le Xavier Celebrates Its First Year of Operation

A place where history, modernity and creativity are intertwined

Le Xavier Celebrates Its First Year of Operation

It is in the Old Terrebonne, in a magnificent centennial house completely restored, that Le Xavier opened its doors in 2021.

It took 2 years of hard work to open, they got all the necessary permits to renovate the house into a place where you can celebrate, enjoy creative local menus, discover a beautiful wine cellar, and even sleep on the premises! It's all about "eating, partying, and sleeping" under one roof. The place houses a restaurant with a private room, a large terrace, a small courtyard, and two Airbnb-style apartments upstairs.

Brothers Maxime and Yannick Laforest, also owners of McTavish Brewery, started this project together with Mathieu Jean-Marie and Maxime Dupré of Construction Vilan.

Once the design was completed, they approached self-taught chef Jean-Philippe Darveau to get him on board. He had his own highly reputable catering company Fitmenu. Jean-Philippe joins the project wanting to make the kitchen in his image: creative, highlighting local artisans, respecting seasonality and taking people out of their comfort zone by revisiting foods they are familiar with.

When visiting Le Xavier, expect to see a menu that changes regularly (every 3 months), to ensure only seasonal products are used that come from local producers and market gardeners carefully selected by the chef. That said, there may be dishes that are so popular that they are removed from the menu during the course of an evening, or the chef may decide to make a few changes in order to serve them with the remaining ingredients.

You will notice that your dishes are served on vintage plates reminiscent of what you would find at your grandparents' house. Each one is selected to make the ingredients shine and varies according to the chef's tastes.

If you love wine, you will not be disappointed when visiting Xavier's, whether a beginner or a connoisseur. They have an impressive selection of private imports in small quantities. Don't limit yourself to what you see on the menu, you can also choose a bottle in their basement wine cellar. The sommelier will help you make your choice.

Of course, there are cocktails made using Quebec spirits, but keep an eye out for new creations to be added to the menu in the coming months.

When visiting a restaurant, the staff can make all the difference. At Xavier's, it's a carefully selected brigade with experience in many well-known restaurants in and around Montreal. Contrary to the current industry, they have been able to recruit and retain their team by offering conditions and a rewarding atmosphere for all.

If you want to experience an evening where the chef takes complete control and takes you out of your comfort zone, attend Tasting Wednesdays. The gourmet menu of 6 dishes served in 3 courses is unveiled a few days before the event and is unique to that evening. The only thing that will be constant is butter made with brioche bread. The price will vary depending on the items served and posted on their social media.

Another night to look out for is Thursdays with 12 oysters offered for the price of 6. As you might expect, these are not the small ones you can find elsewhere for $1.

Planning an event, birthday, or other special occasion? We recommend that you reserve a private room at Xavier's that can accommodate 24 people. They offer special group menus, so don't hesitate to contact them for more information.

What we can guarantee is that this is just the beginning for Le Xavier, and both the owners and the chef have a lot of ideas for special evenings to come. Keep an eye on their website and social media to make sure you don't miss anything.

If you are in Montreal, trust us, you must stop by Terrebonne to discover this place full of history, cachet, creativity, warm service, and to spend quality time in good company!
