Labarake Caserne À Manger A Historical Landmark Becomes A New Dining Destination

By updated: Apr 28, 2014

Montreal (Quebec) April 25, 2014 - In May 2014, LABARAKE – Caserne à Manger, a new restaurant concept from the minds of Andy Aboushaybeh, owner of Terrasses Bonsecours, Denis Sobolj and Emmanuel Besnier, previously at L’Auberge St-Gabriel, will open its doors to the public. Judging by its one-thousand-plus Facebook fans and a healthy online buzz before serving its first meal, the launch of LABARAKE has quickly become one of the most anticipated food events in the city. This feat is partially due to the solid reputation of its founders, but also to the ambitious nature of the project, which has captivated the curiosity of food lovers, who appreciate restaurants crafted with passion and respect for history.

For this adventure, the owners chose to set up shop inside the old fire station at the entrance of the appropriately named Angus Shops, located at 3165 Rachel East corner Midway, a former Canadian Pacific factory complex and one of the best preserved Montreal historical urban landmarks. The project demanded months of planning and construction, in order to produce with care the multitude of details, which will greet its first guests.

The architectural charm of LABARAKE offers the perfect theatre for a culinary experience filled with reinterpretations of comfort food, rich in strong flavors and executed with precision, generosity, and fun pleasure. Its menu promises a start with grignotines, such as the tuna lollipop mi-cuit mi-cru, the veal filet carpaccio, the vegetarian of carrots and quinoa, and the homemade foie gras terrine. The house specialties follow, including the Angus beef tartare, the Cornouailles chicken, the organic salmon à l’unilatéral, the cod fish & chips, the Angus beef filet, the braised short ribs in secret BBQ sauce, and the artisan pasta, risotto style.

LABARAKE – Caserne à Manger and its team invites the media and VIP this coming Thursday, May 1st, as of 5pm on the occasion of its official opening.
