The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel was awarded a prize for the “Companies and institutions" category at the Montreal Gala for environment and sustainable development, which took place on April 29 at the Bonsecours Market. Organized by the Regional Environmental Council of Montreal (CRE- Montreal) in collaboration with the Regional Conference of Elected (CRE ) of Montreal and the City of Montreal , this award aims to reward the dynamism, diversity and mobilization actions for environment and sustainable development organizations and businesses in the city.
The Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel has been awarded for the creation of its vegetable garden located on the roof of the main building. This allows the chefs to grow over 70 varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and edible flowers using organic methods. Six beehives have also been appointed, in order to help pollinate the flowers in downtown Montreal and promote customer awareness about the plight of the bee population.
